Oakley Filtrex2 Cv Filter (very rare)

Post by moxi »

Hi,

I sell my Oakley Filtrex2 Cv filter PCB fully assembled with high quality parts:

http://www.oakleysound.com/filtrex.htm

there is only one pot that sometime "crack" when you turn it (the main out volume, by the way it's a pot you set one time then don't tweak so much), all other things work fine. It's sound really smooth, with analog LFO and EG.

It's can serve as line/Instrument/dynamic mic preamp

It's a discontinued product, so it's by the way a very rare gear.
I will send with it the panel I've done, but it's DIY one, so probably you will prefer to make another one. You have to find a casing by yourself, so it's rather for DIY geeks ;-)
It's powered by an high quality transformer, I can rip it to avoid to pay to much shipping charge.

The original schematic will be mailed to the buyer.

Price start at 150E, it's less than the price of the original parts, hope you will want to add some more buck for my own work on it ;-)...make an offer!

all my best..

this sounds and reads quite interesting, and I am experienced with circuitry of that level, too. the downside is my current financial situation so I can't buy it right now, but maybe in a week.
Since it's a DIY device, I'd like to know how closely you stuck to the component list, what grades of ICs you picked for it and maybe see a closer snapshot of your soldering skills.. I take it that you wouldn't start making a device like that if you weren't really good with this, however.
:-)
if there's noone else interested in this, I might buy as soon as I got my next job paid in a week or so.
cheers

This puts my Sherman filter bank to shame, if built w/ quality components.

The way that ABIT use to build their motherboards. f.e. after 4 years of OC'ing the shit out of the CPU's, it's capacitors showed " 0 " leakage on it's caps. Only Supermicro still uses such style in it's building.

This is a FAT BASTARD.

hi,
Only the panel is crappy, soldering are well done (I've some practice)
all part are as good or better than the original, some AOP have been replaced by better one and especially capacitor are high quality "orange drop"..PSU transformer is a "toroïdal" type especially designed for audio.
I will post some pics tomorow ,one time I keep the filter back from the studio...

thanks.

Excellant,
That will be a good choice for my SE-1x. My Sherman is sitting in a consignment shop right now. Everybody raves about the quality, but I have used my Oberheims external ins 4 so long, I do not like the Sherman VI, as it sounds digital and harsh, not FAT and round as a filter should. Narrow is a good word to describe the Filterbank VI. They have collaborated w/ Rodec on their new filters, as the jump in price is evident. But I am quite sure those baby's will be fat.

Sherman digital and harsh? It's totally analogue eh, except for the MIDI modulations of course.

The reason I sold my v1 years ago was merely the difficulties I had obtaining something stable and more or less predictable. IIRC, I found the knob ranges a bit big, and hard to repeat on a next occasion. Maybe that's what you mean by narrow... Even with marked/noted knob positions, I often had problems coming close to previous sounds. Recording and sampling was the only option for me.

I had one of the first production line - if one can call it production line, Sherman made it on his attick :) Later revisions are told to be more stable. Sherman's lawyer, a relative of mine, gave the filterbank to me one day since he got it as a demo and doesn't produce any music. At the time, Sherman was a one-man company, later his wife handled support emails and stuff.

Sherman's LP>BP>HP transition knob inspired me to hint DeFeX (Neutron7) at the time to make such a filter option, which appeared on his last Scope device releases.

Brotha' Man at0m,
I know they are analog, but it's sound, and as you described so eloquently, lack of control, made it a pain in the arse to use live. It had a harsh, narrow sound compared to a Matrix 12, or other analog filters I used.

I understand the new ones are awesome. Maybe collaboration w/ Rodec has helped. The actual circuits used were of a high quality, but I have been spoiled by much wider, warmer filters.

Their newer models look incredible, but I would rather have the design proven Oakley DIY. A friend commented on the Sherman also saying that thing sounds broke ! Since I bought it used, and never had a unit to A / B demo with, that is a possibility, but then it wouldn't have worked @ all if it was damaged internally in such a way.

Glad 2 See Your Still Around,

JV
