No devices available after upgrade to V3.1 from Luna 2

Post by jimmckerchar »

I produce music as a hobby and have had a Luna soundcard for several years now (since V2 i think) and never had any problems with it.

A couple of years ago, i upgraded my PC to Win XP (again, a couple of years ago) and had problems running the software. After contacting Creamware, it was suggested that i upgrade my software to Version 3 which i could do for free. So far, so good!

I downloaded the package and the allkeys file and installed the software with no problems. Sweet. A working soundcard again...... Only to find that i am now no longer able to use any sort of mixer/effects that i was once able to use with my Luna II software!

Has anyone else had this problem? And does anyone know of a solutio? Is it still possible to get the Version 2 software with plug-ins included? Or do i just have to make do?

Any advice or suggestions would be welcome as i would like to start using my Luna to (at least part) of it's full potential.

Thanks.

This problem is really bugging me......

I am unable to revert to my (working with basic devices) Luna II software as it won't install under Win XP.

Currently, using 3.1 Scope software but have no devices...... not even a basic mixer..... This as you can imagine leaves the card pretty crippled.

Surely i'm not the only person who has had this problem after upgrading the software? Really hope so!

Do you still have the old folder from your previous installation?
When yes, try to move the devices from there to your project window.

Just a small help, I know.

Try downloading the software again from ftp://ftp.creamware.de/Software/Scope_family/ and unistall then re-install from the new dowload. If your devices still do not appear then drag the devices manually into the appropriate folder (eg. C/Scope/Devices/Mixers etc.).

Try the Scope 4.0 download, if you have 3.1c then 4.0 should work OK, otherwise download 3.1c from the Creamware site links (i couldn't find a 3.1c file, don't use the Pulsar 301 file as this is 3.01, not 3.1c).

Basically what people are telling you is that if you don't see the devices from within Scope AT ALL it is because Scope installs to a different folder than your old Luna software, and the devices must be present in the proper subfolder of the currently running version of the software (in this case Scope).

But we should back up a minute. Since I've not owned a Luna I forget exactly what tools it had that Scope doesn't by default (it came with some mixers or vdat etc depending on what version you bought originally). Most of this stuff has newer counterparts, just located in different device folders. Also you may have had some of Creamware's additional plugins or aftermarket 3rd party plugins. It is recommend that you find the installtion files for this (an .oxe file if you can download from creamware, often a zipfile if from a 3rd party source other than Creamware's website).

You can look in your <luna software>/App/bin/*.rgy file (Scope.rgy in newer versions) and find a list of 'installed keys' to tell you what devices you have for your old Luna software. Feel free to paste that information here WITHOUT the board id or the key strings (just a list of devices).

Thank you all for you help. I am currently trying out some of you suggestions and will post a reply with the solution (if i get anywhere).

Something which i forgot to mention in my original post is that i can view all of the devices that come packaged with Scope but cannot use them as they require activation keys. Is this normal? or have i missed something somewhere.... i never had to activate any devices in my original Luna2 package.

Cheers

OK, i never had Luna, but even my earliest PowerSampler card (same as Luna) had activation keys. i think you've solved your own problem.

Email Ralf on rb(at)soniccore.com giving him you hardware serial number and ask him for a new allkeys file (maybe you're using an old one?).

Once you have this re-install your software and make sure you import that allkeys file during installation. i can't believe you never had you do this before, or maybe you forgot you did it.

In the Live Bar go to Set>Registry and you should see a list of all the devices and which ones have keys or not. Not all devices will have keys as you have to buy some of them.

Thankyou for you help.

yes. i am aware of the allkeys file..... when i was first told i would have to upgrade... i was also told i needed the allkeys file which i downloaded (bare in mind, this was a couple of years ago now and at the time the allkeys file i dl'd was brand new...the only version which was available to me)

I installed SFP V3.1 on my Win XP machine and imported the allkeys file. and yet i did not have access to any devices. this has left me rather lost as i have done everything that i was recommended to me (by creamware) but now have a soundcard that essentially doesn't work.

I will try to email ralf requesting a new allkeys file and will try I will try re-installing my SFP3.1 software again with the new file.

Unfortunately, as Luna will not install on Win XP i have no access to any of the original Luna devices or the original Luna folder.

I have tried to re-install the Scope 3.1c software but it stops me from passing the keys page. I have tried entering the key i have from the 'original' luna manual. I have also tried importing the allkeys.sfk file which i had to download when i installed on XP.

It would seem (as Mr Arkadin suggested) that i may have an 'old' allkeys file. I am not sure how, as it was new when i downloaded it and it didn't activate my devices then. However i have emailed Ralf and hope that he can help me out with an up to date key file.

Thankyou all for your help. As soon as i find a solution i will post a reply as i'm sure i can't be the only person to have had problems.

Also, you may find that if you download Scope 4.0 (still free to 3.1c users i think) you'll have even more devices and be bang up to date - your new allkeys file may contain some keys for stuff you don't have in 3.1c. Again ask Ralf.

I have solved my problem .......

After installing various version of the Scope software i returned to the Creamware site in the vain hope of finding something that would help. After browsing a couple of pages in Support i noticed a small link in the Updates navigation to Luna II v2.x ...... Which took me to the download page for the Luna 2.5 software (which does work on WinXP) The text explained very clearly that the update is a beta and that 3.1 is recommended, however no SCOPE devices are available. Instead the devices from the Luna 2.5 update are needed.

Hence my lack of usable devices.......DOH!

Thankyou all for you patience and your help. Sometimes you need to try everything and fail before you realize it must be something simple
