I'm fairly likely to go back to France this year touring (if the Nurburgring hasn't killed me beforehand), and if I do I really want to have a go on that thing :-)

not yet, but I'm about to become one - cool animation

you probably know from riding the bike that there's a deep change in perspective once you cross that 'border' where all of your decisions and actions are final.
To be (ultimately and unrevocably) in charge of your own existence is an important experience and part of a learning process, too.
these 'adventurous' outdoor fun activities with triple safety installations just prevent the latter and lead to stupid , self-overestimating behaviour - casualties included... later ;)

cheers, Tom
(wouldn't dare to basejump either)

That'll help you out very occasionally, but it's not something I particularly rely on when riding my bike.

Luck can work the other way too y'know :-)

well, I don't go out looking for danger or health threatening situations, but I remember a few that would qualify (in retrospect) as such.

Admittedly there was always a choice with at least 2 options, but once the dice had fallen there was no way back or out - and it was clear that 'failure' would be (more or less) fatal.
Yet I cannot remember any rush of exitement in these situations, in fact it was more the opposite, calm but extraordinarily attentive - using all personal skills it was just right to proceed the choosen way.

This feeling to do the right thing the right time in the right location turned into a peaceful satisfaction (afterwards), while during the 'action' the mind was almost empty - none of my drunk-or-drug experiences (decades ago) came even close to the intensity of these hours.
It's difficult to put im words, though, but looking back I regret a lot of 'wasted' opportunities due to just hanging around in my youth ;)

cheers, Tom
