WinDVD
WinDVD
Anyone using this app 4 playback? I recently had 2 x DVD's made for me w/ tutorials using Tascam GVI, and Cubase 4. I was feverish to get going as GaryB just tweaked both of my synth DAW's last week. So I bought WinDVD and downloaded it. When transferring the app 2 my synth DAW's from my internet PC, I used one of my USB GB sticks to avoid my DAW's ever being online. Everything worked fine but I had a pop up window that said it would have to install MS DirectX Februrary 2006 Runtime Web Installer, and MS Visual C++ 2005 Redistinutable Package ( x 86 ). On every DAW, including my internet PC it failed to load. I then went to MS website and downloaded both of the downloads @ the download center. It still says the same crap, failed. Anyone ever encounter this, or am I still totally lame w/ PC's and mainstream apps? It's sad that I can run and create in SFP / GS3, but can't seem to do much else. Damn it, I just want to play and learn my way around Cubase w/ GVI.
Any Suggestions Would Be Appreciated,

Re: WinDVD
I use the one supplied with my mobo (Asus P4C800-E DLX). it's way outdated (probably), but I can watch dvds with it. I can't remember being forced to install anything additional (apart from directx, which was already installed, anyway...). it's v4.x and does output AC3 to the (still existing) sblive. so you're maybe better off with a not-so-recent release, too.scope4live wrote:Anyone using this app 4 playback?

I'm sorry, but my karma just ran over your dogma.

well, if vlc is a single install without much dependencies, one might give it a try (I never used it on windows, only with linux).
I suggested an older windvd version because this didn't seem to depend on too much external stuff.

sorry I forgot to help....
Jimmy, which OS are you running?
I use Win XP with SP2 and thats basically all you need.
I`m sure you got an older OS (Win2000) or you don`t have SP2 installed on your XP license...
I mean WinXP without a service pack, or just SP1.
I`m sure SP2 is necessary to install WinDVD, because the newest version of WinDVD come with HighDefinition support, and I think I somewhere read you need SP2 for this.
With SP2 you also get a newer version of DirectX and other stuff..
BTW which graphics card have you installed in your system?
Some do support deinterlancing and video decoding acceleration....
check it out there is a download version for the servicepack2 mainly for admins that you can copy to your usb sticks and then install it without the need of an active internet connection on your local Scope Warrior DAW...
normally its that MS online update procedure... which normally sucks...
BTW2: you remind me of my older brother, which is obviously not a pc-pro but a gfx designer....
And so he has about 5 screens connected to 5 different systems (1xMac,3 PC + 1 Laptop)
And every Pc is for one task....
1 for skype and gaming + internet
1 for work
1 mac for design
.....
thats so funny
I told him that he really needs another one on the toilet.... for further organising and better workflow....

I think I will install it on DAW #2 w/ the eVGA GeForce. I have been trying it out on my weak ass G450's. I didn't even think to put it on the fierce Core 2 Duo w/ NVidia chipset. See,... I am a pendajo when it comes to PC's and any apps other than SFP / Giga. Thanks 4 all the tips guys.
HiFiBoom,...was that a picture of a feeces removal PC? That is extreme. I love people who have depth w/ their daily processes.
BTW, all 4 PC's have XP SP2.

quite strange,scope4live wrote:Even w/ eVGA / XP Home SP2 I still get the same bull shit. Of course they have no phone #, and the support team is too busy to respond. So I shall cancel the order. I always liked things that work on first tries....like SFP / Giga DAW's by GaryB.

you have the newest DirectX version installed.....?
and maybe upgarde to the newest graphics card driver, too...
Well Thanks 4 Freebies,
I just downloaded www.ivivo.com 's free DVD encoder and viola !! I can now watch my DVD's that will get me up and running w/ Cubase 4 / GVI. I guess WinDVD is too overbloated 4 it's own good. I would have paid 4 the service, as I prefer to help any software developers by buying, and not pirating or using freebies. But if they are such a hassle, they can suck my ass. I will keep my money.
I now can watch the Cubase 4 video on DAW #1 and pause it while I follow in real time on DAW #2 w/ Cubase 4 running, all thanks to the KVM switcher.
That's the only way my lame ass can learn. It's sad I know. I sat and practiced classical piano for hours when I wore a younger man's clothes, and just don't have the patience to read another manual. Please ReD_MuZe, and SpaceF,.....make me a video, I will pay dearly and chip in as an investment !! Seriously.
