IRQ conflicts

Post by Mr Arkadin »

Well i just used this program called PC Wizard which i find easier to navigate than Windows version and i got this for my IRQs:

<<< Interruption Request - IRQ >>>

> 09 : Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System
> 10 : NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200
> 10 : Intel(R) 82801EB USB Universal Host Controller - 24D2
> 13 : Intel(R) 82801EB USB Universal Host Controller - 24D4
> 12 : Intel(R) 82801EB USB Universal Host Controller - 24D7
> 10 : Intel(R) 82801EB USB Universal Host Controller - 24DE
> 17 : Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller
> 16 : Marvell Yukon Gigabit Ethernet 10/100/1000Base-T Adapter, Copper RJ-45
> 15 : Creamware DSP-Board
> 16 : VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller
> 17 : Creamware Pulsar2
> 15 : Creamware Scope
> 08 : System CMOS/real time clock
> 01 : Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard
> 04 : Communications Port (COM1)
> 03 : Communications Port (COM2)
> 06 : Standard floppy disk controller
> 0E : Primary IDE Channel
> 0F : Secondary IDE Channel
> 12 : Intel(R) 82801EB Ultra ATA Storage Controllers
> 11 : SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio

As you can see two of my CreamWare cards share IRQ15, but the third shares IRQ 17 with the PCI to USB Host Controller. Although windows says there's no conflict, seeing as i use my USBs quite a bit would it be a good idea to change it? If so how would i go about doing this on Windows XP Pro without moving the card?

Thanks in advance to garyb and Tom Astroman, although you others can chime in too  .

Have you tested all the slots on the mobo to see what IRQ they use?

It's rare to have 3 slots with the same IRQ, although obviously this would be cool for CW cards.

If it's a possibility to put a PCI USB card in a slot that shares with some other system device, then it would be a good option to disable the on-board USB.

Also, are you having any specific probs? 1 of my Pulsar2 cards (I have 2 in my system) shares with an RME PCI card, but I've never had any problems with PCI performance or otherwise. On a good mobo which properly implements ACPI etc, there should not be any problems.

There is no way of changing IRQ wia OS or other Software. Some old Bios could to my knowledge.

Do you need the integrated sound max?

Do you use the com ports?

Disable in bios if not and see IRQ change. Then do what Darkrezin suggest with the PCI/USB - pray for happy days.

If you havent had Pulsar hardware problems, then you really don't know what pain is..........

i'm not sure what the Com ports are to be sure - i suppose in that case i'm probably not using the. The SoundMax i don't use (although it is by Analog Devices :D)

i haven'y had any problems yet, but my main concern is that i'll be getting a Firewire drive soon, and i need a PCI slot for that. Hopefully i can juggle it about a bit to not conflict as there will be a lot going on with that channel.

If i were to disable Coms and SoundMax how do i do that? Where do i access the bios?

in startup press delete or one of the F keys (depending on your system to get into bios...normally del....) . Find the com ports and onboard sound in one of the sub menues and disable. Save and exit.

Com (communication ports) ports are the game ports and printer port for oldschool stuff.
