Any Users Of PS/2 / VGA KVM Switcher ?

Post by dawman »

I score on ebey quite often, and found this unit 4 90USD shipped. It 's an overkill item, but if I want to run 8 DAW's @ once w/ 1 x LCD, I'm covered. There are certain downfalls though, such as this unit w/o a manual. My IT friend is in the Bahamas and was pissed when I called him to ask 4 help on the ancient but worthy Compaq. I am so spoiled from this forum, but I must beg once again. I put together a whole new 6 foot 28U SKB Battle Tank full of DSP's ( 90 ) for synths, and samplers. GaryB is coming to help on the 29th. But I wish to at least be running this when he gets here, so he wouldn't be bothered by my experiments w/ computer fuck ups.

I use them all the time at work. I use a small belkin KVM in my home studio as well.

what kinda of KVM is it? If I have used it I can probably help you out with the keyboard commands for it.
The physical connections are pretty easy. If you can use a scope system you can hook up one of those suckers.

can't imagine how I could ever work without one... :D
I have DLink 4 port, switching is done by 2 fast presses of the Scroll-Lock F-key (it will beep once), then quickly a number from 1 to 4 , beeps a 2nd time and does the warp.
your 'initial' key may deviate from Scroll, just try which function key reacts to a quick sequence of presses ;)

cheers, Tom

No Luck, but I am optimistic.
It is a brand new, old model Compaq 8 port 1U KVM. It uses PS/2, VGA. I can't get it to work w/ random key commands. Since it shows the resolution window, I assume the connections I made were correct. I'm using male 2 male KVM sets 10 feet in length, and a 1U rackmount PS/2, trackball keyboard drawer. The sight of this giant Scope rack is amazing. 15' foot luminouscent USB cables from controllers to front of DAW's, 8 Raptors blinking. Hardware FX, and Studio Electronics SE-1x's routed into Scope. I must share a picture of this w/ you guys. I call it my 28U SKB Shock-mounted Battle Tank. If I could just load a few shells, I could be a contender.

what's the model number?
it's probably on a plate or sticker near the serial number.

try pressing the PrintScreen button.. see if you get a menu of computers to switch to..
If you do, you can choose the kvm port with the arrow keys

Lucky Me,
A thorough search in some IT forums has paid off. I have downloaded the manual, and I am confident this DAW'g will soon hunt.

It works !! Thank You.
I have created more work though as this set up has changed. The mouse kind of sucked @ first, but has super precise touch w/ virtual volune knobs, etc. I can get around w/ lots more control than before, but I am trying to break old PS/2 habits. But two DAW's and 1 x LCD is great 4 a live keyboard rig.

if the mouse acts weird thru the KVM, you can try disabling mouse acceleration on the machines you are controlling...
I have to do that one some of the machines I access via kvm at work..

Might be different for you though.. Im doing KVM over ip..
