How to use the Syncplate as wordclock-generator?

Hi,

I want to use a DAW with a Luna + ADAT-Extension, a scope professional and a syncplate, setted up with a 1 GHz Intel and Windows XP, sequenzer is Cubase 5.1

It works fine using a Tascam DM24 with 24 Ch via firewire, but I need this mixer in another setup.

My problem: Now I want to connect 3 Behringer Ultragain Pro-8 via ADAT (24 Ch), but they doesn't sync without sparkles and glitches. One Ultragain is ok, but more than one doesn't work.

Now I am thinking about using the DAW via the syncplate as external wordclock-generator for the 3 Ultragains, but the Ultragain doesn't sync to the BNC-input.

Must I install the syncplate source or dest and wireing them with anything? Which BNC-connector is the right one? Is it possible to use the creamwarecard as wordclock for the ultragains?

Does anybody use a similar setup?

two ada8000s work very well by adat or bnc.

if scope is master, then both ada8000s must be set to slave.

if you want scope to be slave, in the samplerate window, you can sync to bnc if you wish, if you have a syncplate, no module is needed. the syncplate source and dest modules are for adat machine control/sync(the 9pin connectors). you can also select lightpipe.

if it doesn't work then you have too many masters. as long as you only have one master, you won't get clicks normally. assuming good cables, properly connected, i can assure you that either way(lightpipe or bnc) the 3 pieces of gear will sync together via lightpipe. i've done so on multiple systems.

Hi Garyb,

thanks a lot for your statement. I bought a new set of lightpipes and changed from 44,1 to 48 KHz - and it's running! The DAW was for a year unused in a cellar, may be the pipes were old.

what's the clock generator on the sync plate like? would it be better to set the converter to master or should the sync plate be master? what offers the best quality?

the sync plate is not a clock generator. it is an interface. the card has the clock on it, which would be the one used if the card is master. i'd guess the convertter or the card's clock would be about the same. theoretically, the convertor's clock wouldn't have to deal with the high radiation environment of the computer itself and so might be a little better because of that, but i don't think it'll make the difference between good and bad tracks.
