Back to the future...Formatting and reinstalling

Hi there

I'm gonna format my PC and reinstall everything. I got troubles with midi (clicks and pops) and later other issues. So, here I am, ready to start from the very beginning.
This is my actual setup:
P4 3Ghz
MB ASUS P4P800 Edeluxe (chipset intel)
2 Gb RAM DDR400 Corsair dual channel
2 HD 80 GB 7200 rpm
1 HD 300 GB SATA
Graphic Card Matrox (I don't remember the model, but it has no 3d acceleration etc..)
Windows XP Home
2 Pulsar II cards
Sync Plate
Cubase SX 2
Since I'm going to clean up everything and reinstalling (no more ACPI mode, STANDARD PC this time!), is there anything you suggest to do in order to get a stable daw based on Scope cards?Any BIOS setting?What would you do if you were me?Is there a chronological path you'd follow installing hardware and software?This is the last chance for Scope system in my studio...if everything is going to be problematic again, I'll go for Motu and Digital Performer...
Please let me know!

setting the thing up is easy. i've done many computers with that basic setup that worked perfectly. it's too much typing to give you all the details here, if you pm me, i'd be happy to go over things by phone.

a mac will not work any better.

ACPI should work great on that motherboard!!!
in the bios, disable all unused ports and devices(built in audio for example). disable hyperthreading.

do not put the scope card in until all bios tweaks are done and until windows is installed. after windows is installed, load the motherboard drivers(they come on a cd with the motherboard. you can download them from the manufacturer if you no longer have the cd). load the video card drivers(ditto). turn off the computer and install the scope card. turn on the computer and install the scope driver.

do at least the following windows tweaks(for xp):
in windows, go to control panel/system/advanced/performance settings, and check "adjust for best performance". turn off remote assistance, i also disable system restore.

this part i'm tired of typing:
go to start/programs/accessories/system tools/sytem information/hardware/conflicts-sharing. look to see if your scope card is listed there. if it is, try changing pci slots(turn off the computer first). if, after changing slots you cannot escape sharing, choose the slot which only shares with a usb controller. the controller will have a name like 24DE. go to the device manager and disable the usb controller with that name there(don't worry, you'll still have at least 3 usb controllers left. you'll never know the difference). close and reopen system information(you must close and reopen for the new info to be reported) and verify that the scope card is not listed in conflicts-sharing anymore.

install the software.

basically, this is it. if you have good, working parts in your computer, it must work properly.

Only one thing...Since I have 2 Pulsar II cards plus the Sync Plate, WHEN do I have to install the second pulsar and the sync plate? Together with the first one?

yes, both cards can be installed at the same time, or one right after the other, it doesn't matter that much.
