I'm against capital punishment.
As this opinion can only be principal, I'm against the execution.
He should be glad, as life time prison would have been worse for him, not for me :-)
cheers

Honestly, I don't give a dime about this whole fiasco. What I care about is why are we still in Iraq and where is Osama.

With the US trying to 'send a message' (don't fuck with the US) using someone who is still innocent in the world's eye of the reasons why we invaded, regardless of what crimes were used to 'convict' him, should you care? Certainly Saddam was a saint by any means, but the 'trial' he went through glosses completely over our reasons for going in again and is supposed to be of symbolic importance for the 'freedom of Iraq'. Symbolism that might be effective in the US on those whose main sources of info are the controlled media, but how effective elsewhere? Are the people in power in US really in the belief that doing this lessens our problems and wins the hearts & minds of Iraqis, or do the really want to placate the US population & inflame world opinion at every turn so that they can continue in the war games that are so profitable for them?

Also, what's Cheney been up to?

Sadam was convicted for deaths which the invaders there cause to exceed daily. What will be their punishment? They walk and fill their pockets. Death penalty would be much too kind for the latter IMO.

Don't think the killing in Iraq will stop if the us withdraws, most likely it will become a total anarchy. Similar to what happened in former Jugoslavia after the death of Tito..
So, Sadam was only a victim, as he was "choosen" to lead Iraq in a short period of time, and during some misfortune with the kurds.
Somebody misunderstood his "practise" in Kuwait, but that's not his fault.

And by the way, who wouldn't fire a Scud missile if it was in your possession.

But..........
....................on the other hand, it might be a signal to the peaople of Iraq, good or bad, we'll see, hopefully good

Death is a fair penalty for using poison gas to 'punish' unfavoured ethnic groups of your own population. It also sends a good message to other dictators.

As for punishing 'our' leaders for certain decisions... it's always a case of Vae Victus. In WWII Doenitz got death for unrestricted U-boat activity in the Atlantic; in the Pacific US commanders like Nimitz used the same techniques.

Woe to the Vanquished.
