CPU and Motherboard Fried

Post by YiannisK »

my ASUS PAT533-c and Intel 2.8 533fsb socket 478, simply fried one lovely, 1 week before X-mas , day. :x :x :x :x :x :x     :o :( :-? :x

I have never had any problems with the 2 scope pro cards in this computer.
Everything was great until one day the computer did not turn on.
Everything in my studio has protection from the electrical sockets for spikes.

I found another motherboard like mine for $100 but I can't seem to fint a CPU for this motherboard.
Don't know if I should upgrade to other motherboard and cpu because I've invested alot of money in the RDram for this computer.

Does anyone have any info an the Asus P4T533-c and what types of cpu's or compatible?
Does this motherboard take a cpu with a 800 fsb?

Please any info atall would help, i need fix my computer soon , many projects at stake.

Thanks :x :x :x :x

you can get a cpu on ebay.
rdram? it'll be a 533fsb max.

there were a lot of those made, you should be able to replace it cheaply. good luck.

Take the power supply unit from another machine & install it just to check if it's the psu, as that would be a cheap fix, but an expensive mistake if overlooked.

Good luck

I agree with shroomz it's most probably your power supply, you don't just fry a cpu and mainboard ,either way a mains surge will blow the transformer first.Unless of course you overclock it,then you're asking for it.

The first thing I did was to try another power supply but no luck.
tried another cpu (same sa mine borrowed) and nothing .
tried another motherboard same as mine with my cpu, agian no luck.
Then I tried other motherboard with borrowed cpu and only then I got a possative result.

I got a used motherboard P4T533-C for $100 And now I'm looking for a cpu.
I'm trying to find an Intel socket 478 3.06 533 fsb cpu.

Unless this motherboard will take something else.
Is it for shure that I can't use a 800fsb 2meg cache cpu.

Thanks everyone for your input and help.
Hope I can fix my daw soon

Merry Xmas and a Happy new Year to all.

Forgot to mention that My computer tech buddy's can't give me an explanation as to what caused my motherboard and cpu to blow up.

So if anyone has any ideas as to how to check to see what caused this would be great so it doesn't happen again.

(everything in my studio is connected to a ups or furmans before any electrical sockets)

Thanks

electrolytic capacitors, as usual (green, yellow, black or blue vertical 'tubes')
it's the only part that developes significant wearout over time - they get bulky and often the content leaks

cheers, Tom

Any more info please.

Would a laptop cpu with same socket and fsb work?

Fould alot of cpu's on ebay but most often the L1 cache is 1meg instead of what I had 512k so I don't know if these cpu's are compatible.

Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.06GHz 512K 533FSB 478 HT SL6Z5

INTEL P4 MOBILE 3.06 GHz HT 1Mb 533MHz FSB SL7NA

Intel Mobile P4 IV 3.06GHz 3.0Ghz 1MB SL7NA 478 CPU New

Pentium 4 CPU 3.06Ghz 3.06 1M/533 478 SL7NA Like New

Prices are good
