quantize or otherwise sample and hold average midi clk freq?

Post by UsedManateeSalesman »

Hey folks,

I've got a simple patch going with a tempo delay module. I thought it might be nice and trivial to sync it to midi clock being generated by cubase, but since the midi clock is flipping everywhere between 119.50 and 120.50 on the readout, the frequency being sent through the frequency divider is always modulating the tempo delay times in real time and making a choppy crappy sound.

Could someone that knows better than I tell me whether it's worth trying to sort this, and if so what module would smooth this out? That could be just about anybody since I'm 100% hack.

the manatees thank you.

you don`t have to sync it.

I mostly use the Scope delays and manually input the delay times by giving the right bpm value as input....

so it does not sync to Cubase, but the tempo is just fine and constantly the same....

Alright, I'll just put that in then. At least its BPM value from the internal clock generator seems close to the native clock. I found that the Pattern Delay needed to be set to ~115 to sync with 120. WEIRD, but that's not Modular related.

I'd rather have it synced/quantized though, so that I can change tempo and not have to noodle around with too many things. Guess it isn't much of a hardship, but still it should be do-able.

pattern delay is in triplets mode after loading.
not yet experienced that pattern delay is out of sync.... but I have to add that I havent used it that often till now...

Ulli can play a role in mucking up delay times - they are more reliable at greatest latency.

I'm sure it's the ULLI setting. Change it over to the slowest possible (34/25/23/12ms) and you'll get perfectly synced delays.
btw1 Wayne and Manatee, is one of your cards still a Pulsar 1? maybe it's got something to do with it?
btw2 there was a discussion on delay problems a few months ago here: http://www.planetz.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=20508

Roy, I'll give that a shot for a mixdown and just dial in by hand as close as I can while writing. Gotta have that low latency for playing or I'll feel like I'm on an old SoundBlaster ;) Mine is just a couple of weeks out of the box scope-pro, non pulsar1.

Well for anything different than the biggest ULLI the internal delay time divider calculates it wrong. I have found a nice trick to have a instant BPM to ms calculator. I use a modular Tempo-delay with some freq dividers plug into it. The text -fields informs about the correct sync timing. I just copy the value to the desired delay in "standard" (non-synced) mode.

I will try that! If the internal clock would match the system clock that too would be sufficient. It isn't like I'm doing tempo sweeps.
