You know I grow weary of constant grooves, and always have my ears open to new sources of material. I am adding some new production to the dance band, and the choreograrher has to help me make it happen.
After racking my brain to get something fresh, I stumbled on this song called Birds Of Fire, by John McLaughlin and Mahavishnu Orchestra. 12 / 8, and 10 /8 meter is normal w/ these guys. Their music is so spiritual and original, just amazingly hypnotic grooves.
I'm picturing 5 fine women doing very modern choreography, no singing, just a hypnotic, erotic, mating groove. Since I am to be tortured by 4 /4 timing the rest of the time, not to mention cackling hens who argue and sing all fuckin' night, I should have a right to say " Dance Yo' Bitches ". I even envisioned the sound of lashing, as in whips, on the turn arounds.
My Brothas',......Am I Losing It, Or Does This Seem Like A Fair Compromise ??
Sexy Hussie Version Of Traditional Thai Mating Dance
Thanks Astro My Old Friend,
I already have an idea for the groove. it's in 12 / 8 meter. I can see the girls jirating slowly like cobras to a shenai reed. There is a mathematical polyrhythm which would by itself sound like an old waltz ,...........1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3,......and that is precisely your subdivided four section movement, over a 2 bar phrase. This choreographer really has got me stoked. She is such a talented dancer / composer. This is really a great experience for me, to try and combine the music and dance w/ lights in all their glorious automation. I will use this to try and bolster my composition skills. As right now it is a quick fix for a return engagement. I don't like coming back as the same band to a place, but with more production. I shall sequence this with that great fiddle from Giga and Six String doing the guitars. Cobham and Hammer will have justice to their awesome backing tracks.
So It Shall be Written, So It Shall Be Done,
