First of all, it's better to call it "San Fran", or they'll wonder where you've been since the 70's. i must go out now but will come back to you later on.
Actually it's called the City. Go north to the wine country on route 101 for a free buzz. Go left at Santa Rosa and say hello to Shayne White. Still going west till you hit the oyster beds at Point Reyes, Nicks Cove is an excellant restaraunt. Take route 1 south down the coast back to SF. It is an all day stint, but a very beautiful ride. Even prettier in the fall.
Once you are back in the city, do not take the Alcatraz tour where famous criminals were kept in maxmum security, it is quite boring. But seek out Hyde Street recording studios for a grand tour of where many famous bands recorded in the day. The record plant is also open to the public I believe. Some very nice consoles to be seen there.
Then just pick up a newspaper for local concerts and places of interest. Smoke a joint on the Golden Gate Bridge, most of the police officers there should have some.
Take no offense at this, but the finest trim is at the gay bars, as they are always happy to go hang out where the men leave them alone.
Eat at Scoma's on the Wharf by the marina, as it has the finest Abalone on the west coast.
If you go broke, you could pretend to be homeless, and probably get at least a hundred bucks just hanging out by the seals, at the pier 17 area.
I hope you enjoy your stay there. Hurry back for Wilma is buying the mega bundle 4 me as an early Christmas present .
SpaceF is right. My cousin lives in Sauso and you must go to Spinachers for a good view and lunch. Unique botique will give you a discount for your woman if you PM me when you get there. She is the owner.

If you get a chance, read a book called "Ringolevio" before you go. Gives an interesting history about the "Diggers" who attempted to subvert by making everything "free" and the "Summer of Love"..... and introduces some truly amazing real people from San Francisco and that time. Some even survived. Some of it's true.
That is correct if you are driving, but historically speaking it is on the most unshakable part of the city. It even survived the big one back in the late 1890's.
I think Wolf will be just fine, too bad he didn't go during the beautiful fall season. I just love the " City ". Remember Jefferson Airplane when Gracey Slick was singing with Micki Thomas? We Built this City................We built this City.....................We built this City on Rock and Roll. They meant We built this city on Rocks that Roll !!!
Only thing that comes to mind for me is San Francisco Nights - Eric Burdan and the Animals. Fell in love that night, first time. never to be forgotten. 1966/7
Brotha' Man Hysteric,
You have made me twitch a little. They had to sound so good then. Did you drop any acid? I did at Pink Floyd in '71. In '67 I was only 11 years old, but already had a Farfisa w/ a Leslie and was playing " We gotta get out of this place ", and some of their other great songs. Inna Gadda Da Vida was also one of my faves then. Us little street punks use to call it " Eat A Gob Of Velveetea Baby " as in the shitty brick of cheese they sell in USA Grocery stores.
Brotha' Man Hubird,
I am just a clowning around as usual.
