self multiplier module for Modular

Post by johnbowen »

Hi All,

This is a quick response to ds-sound's request for a way to easily modify the slope of envelopes from linear to exponential. An old trick to get increased exponential shape is to multiply the envelope by itself (by using a Ring Modulator), and this module provides up to 4 ring modulators for the multiplication. There's also a standard crossfade module to mix the Direct input signal with the multiplied signal (also, if you pan to only the multiplied output, selecting 0 for the multiply factor will give unaltered Direct input signal).

Other versions could provide (1) more Ring Mods or (2) modulation of the X-Fade control.

For more discussion, see the thread in Modular Talk:
http://www.planetz.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=20658

I hope it is useful!

JB,
I am currenlty experimenting with mic'ing a bass cabinet and sending the signal into SFP 4 treatment. Is there a way to try this 4 live use? Maybe use it as a mono insert on selected channel?

It works like a charm! :D
Excellent work, you made me very very happy.
I tested it around with a kick-making patch,
and with a bass-line patch modulated one of flexor's filters.
This little gadget is truly useful! now I can make great booming kicks,
and snappy 'in your face' bass lines.

Thanks, dear man!

Jimmy,
ER....ummmm.....sure, but....ithat's not what it's designed for, but you could give it a try. For this, you would have to run the audio through a Modular patch. If it made sense, I guess I could rig up the thing as a FX Insert....

Hi again Jimmy,

I made it into an RD Insert module and tried it - not useful as an audio processor, as it effectively cancels out the signal (but a nice addition to the RD set for envelope manipulation!)

Cheers,

RD set refers to my RD series II modules which work in a number of synths. You can read about them and the original concept here:

Mehdi from SpaceF has also developed modules for this format. The idea is to offer the user more flexibility in selecting the actual synth components used, and which can be reconfigured on a per preset basis....
