Dream 1
I don't know how to describe this one.
Uses: Various sample manipulations and programming used to create a kind of dark dream-like space.
I used GarageBand to sketch it down and then manipulated the whole thing in VST 5 and I only used VST / AU instruments.
I then used various Scope effects (mainly reverbs, pattern delays and Interpole Filter). Forgot how good Interpole is.
I left it kind of minimal to get air and space - but is it too minimal ?

Thanks Hub
Do you think I need extra elements to tie the arrangement together - or just restructure it ?
I think I understand what you mean about the arrangement - it should build - but it seems to build - drop - build - drop . . . then ends with nothing.
I think it's mainly because I was in the process of dropping out drum tracks which were originally all the way through - then got lazy.
I'll try out your suggestion on the sub for sure.

it's got a mysterious, dark.. almost freaky evil kinda sound... agree with braincell, I think there could be some "wholesome" groove building up since the drums have that sort of energy.
The other way to view this, is that it's suspenceful, not really blowing out into anything obvious. So, the mystery is there. I guess it depends what the focus is.
Also, you may want to try shifting the spectral focus from the low bass to somewhere else, and then go back to it... Just ideas.

Great . . .
Thanks for the comments and ideas guys.
I'm a bit lost with this one.
Maybe bipolar - or just depressed - who knows
(just can't seem to get the mania happening)
I'm trying a few things as I type, to build interest, but it aint work'n for me.
I think I'll strip it right back and try again.
Not sure why I can't get this thing to groove.
Hub - I listen to Groove Salad all the time - it's perfect for my listening taste while on the computer.
I really appreciate all your help and input as I'm suffering hugely from lack of inspiration and direction.
I'll disappear for a while now and attempt to put your advice and suggestions into practice.
Regards

Well Ok - here is my second version.
Quite a bit different, although the intro is almost the same.
I think it's got a more clear direction now - whether it's better or not is a matter of taste
Let me know how the sub stuff is - I did apply cuts around 50 Hz. My walls aren't rumbling as much so I hope I applied enough(?)

much better already, the flow is clear, and there is overall rest
one or the other expressive sound/voice would finish it, but maybe you don't want that.
do I hear a great sound at the end, after the last rhythmic sound disappears, just before the vey end?
it sounds like an phantasy animal breath, camfiltered or something.
you could work that out

Thanks to everyone for their help - especially Hub and brain.
Think I'm back on track.
Hub - that "creature" sound can be one of two things:
A morphed, and envelope pitch shifted Iranian Duduk with my beathing sounds over it . . . or a backwards, stretched and pitch shifted "evil laugh"
Were you suggesting I end with that?
I sent this draft to a mate in Melbourne to see if it grabs him enough to do vocals for me.
