yes, i suppose it is not that easy to find out the reason.
i tell you another crashing combination tested: 5 optimasters+1masterverb pro.

it is not dsp loading.
i tested it on 96khz and 5 optimasters load almast 50% of dsps in that case and the 6th crashes sfp again.
i tested it on 32khz and in that case even if the dsp load is almast 20% the 6th optimaster crashed sfp.
... 6th optimaster or 5 opts+1masterverb pro....
i think that there are more bad and dangerus combinations. the only thing that i want to avoid at the moment is formatting again.
i now that after a clean xp installation the results might be different according to loading modules.
oh! xp you seem so metaphysic to me.

i don't think that abit ic7g with 875p and 478 prescott in standard pc and very optimized for audio.... is the problem. in fact it is similar to asus p4800e dlx which i used in the past and i think it is one of the recommended.
i think that xp makes the problem after installations and uninstallations of other programs.
or maybe there is some more tweeking with latencys.
next buy for me is not going to be one of the new gaming like motherboards.
i have to see solutions of dual cpu boards maybe.
actually as i see from plantz creamware likes single cpu's. is that a myth?

Motherboard:
K8 Triton GA-K8NSC-939
nForce3 250gb chipset
Processor: Athlon 64 3800x2 dual-core (running both, no prob once I disabled motherboard audio)
Video:GeForce 6200 ultra AGP
Win XP Pro, sp2
2gig RAM, 250 gig sata, 160 gig ide

PCI:
Pulsar 1 (4 dsp)
Pulsar 2 (6 dsp) = 10 total
Firewire card

Only 6 Masterverbs before PCI warning
But then i can load up to 11, and still works.
I will try taking out the firewire card, but no time now.
Overall, a very stable system - leave it running while doing other work - no problems for a week. PCI set to auto in bios - scrolls by too fast to see all the other addresses - what's the best way to address that?

optimaster is bugged, it's a semi-well-known fact. if you load it more than a couple of times, you'll always get a freeze/bluescreen error. you can load one and use it several times if you must, loading and saving presets instead of reloading projects or the device itself.

thanks symbiote for info.
also in that case the switches you made found in devices of planetz are very helpfull. there are also similar switches if i am not wrong in devices list.

5 optimasters cause blue screen as well.

shroomz how can you load 12 optimasters?
do you have the real 4.5 update?
is there an update of the device?
like minimax update? original minimax always gives me dsp error message, but the updated can be loaded to 16 polyphony atonce.

the blue screens of 5 to 6 optimasters appear regardless of empty or full project.
i have that 4.5 upgrade as well.

well shroomz, it's not a bad idea to start the optimaster test.

but in that case i think we're going to sing the BLUES aaall together with elvis.

an EZsynth test might be more relaxing

Had to retest because I have a new setup:

I have an ASUS motherboard 1.9 gigahertz with a lot of RAM and an ATI Radeon. Windows XP service pack 2 with updates.

Pulsar II + Luna (9 DSP chips)

I can load 5 masterverbs.

It is curious to me that I can also load 5 masterverb pros.

How many reverbs have you guys used in any one song?

You may have a Pulsar 1 rev 1 like I did. I had the same problems with constant overflows until I replaced it. It also seems I could triple my perfomance with a new computer.

Pulsar I, Powersampler.

I can load 3 (!) MV's only. And in an actual project with other devices and Cubase running it is often impossible to run a reverb at all because of PCI overflow!

I thought it was the old Pulsar I board, but reading this thread it seems that some people are getting decent results with combinations of 1st and 2nd generation boards, so maybe the mobo has something to do with it.

Do i need to upgrade my computer or my Pulsar??

Herr Voigt, While what you are saying is true, I have discovered that the Pulsar 1 rev 1 is very bad.

I think, the number of MVs depends
1) above all of the PCI bandwidth
2) of course of your DSP amount.

That's why I did the big changing action offered from CW: an old P1 and 1600 EUR for a new Scope Pro. I did never regret.
Btw, I 'm not such a sophisticated reverb user, I never took more than 2 reverbs in one project.
Best, Thomas

I would think 2 or 3 reverbs is enough. I'm going to try and stick with this computer for another 2 years while they work the kinks out of Vista and the new Intel chips.

I can do that with 2 Pulsar Ones on a PIII, strange - I would have estimated 7 or 8.
Anyway, I also agree on a max of 3 reverbs, but in the context of PCI use delays also count, and those might be used much more excessively.
For example I often like the A100 as a small room added to cheap (external) guitar delay/reverbs - then I could load another Masterverb, but the next synth with a delay unit, or a TapeEcho etc will fail with the PCI bandwidth error.

cheers, Tom

if you need more than max 3 masterverbs on one project forget the project

The thread/topic title & apparent goal of striving to be 'able' to load lots of masterverbs is misleading. It's just a logical test of a system's pci bandwidth. The results seem to make about as much sense as chocolate teapots though

Recently something got screwed up in my computer so I had to format my hard drive and install everything again. As you can imagine it took days and I'm not done but a good thing happened. I decided to try ACPI mode instead of standard pc which I was using before because it was the only way I could get the old cards (which I have since removed) to work well enough. I did the test again and my performance doubled! I can now load 10 masterverbs which is on par with the rest of you. I am really happy about this. Now to make music! Yes I am sure I will be able to use the VDAT too without the problems I was having with clicks astro.

2GB ram samsung
2 HDs SATA (raptor 74GB)
matrox dualhead
liteon dvd writer
case chieftech dragon 450W supply

connected with 2 stdm cables
scope prof in slot 2
project in slot 4
no irq sharing

onboard AUdio disabled
all other things (LAN . . .) active

win XP pro; nuendo;wavlab;scope45;neroburning;

NO Tweaking!! ( no standart pc things or so .. .)

12 Masterverbs message on the 13!

i post this becourse i think its a very good combination for those who want to make no tweakings just plug and play;
stable with good performance

The first line of this thread - (alfonso says) - " I thought that a specifical thread to check the PCI performance of the Motherboards would be nice and useful.
"

Cool, ain't it? :D

Our new 14 dsp booster arrived from Creamware today. Just installed it in a system with a 6 dsp project & 3 dsp powersampler (23 dsp total) & ran a Masterverb test as per Alfonso's instructions (blank project, just load as many MVs as possible) .... result ? 60, yes 60 MVs without an error !!!!! I decided to stop because I was getting bored & a bit worried that it might blow up :D See the attached screenshot.

I won't list the full system spec, because it's the same as the system I used in the MV test I did earlier in this thread (Asus A7N8X deluxe with both network controllers & all other unnecessary hardware disabled in bios)

I'm wondering if it's actually working properly

Edit:- These results were false. The system was momentarily brain-dead & allowed me to just keep loading MV's. I'll leave the picture of 60 MV's loaded so that we can dream :D .... The actual figure is now only 15.
