Midi flutter in Cubase STILL

Post by steffensen »

Ok, so after testing everything possible worth testing (trial & error), i couldnt get the midi fluttering in cubase 3 to work, so i came to the conclusion it gotta be my gfx card, as its kind of known to not be supported by steiny no more. (matrox G550)

So, i finally got a new one, a new nvidia xfx geforce 6200, but guess what-- i still have midi fluttering. :D

My music NEEDS things to be tight, i cant deal with stuff fluttering all over the place.

This is obviously something bound to cubase however, as every other host ive demo'ed works flawlessly..

Ive bundled a mp3 showing the fluttering with this post. It starts with a single Rim, and after 4 ticks it doubles up with the same Rim recorded in Cubase 1 time and copied up in the exactly same pattern.
Its pretty obvious whats goin on..

Also added same thing goin on from Logic, wich is a lot tighter as u can hear.

ARGH. .. Back to Logic 5? Look for another Host? what to do...what to do..

While listening I was thinking, did you manually place the start of the recorded clicks exactly on the start of the new bar, sample precise (at max zoom)?
The first doubling one at least should show phase cancellation.
Just to get things clear :-)

Yep i did.
Ive tried setting the midi latency in as perfect sync as possible, as well.

Before gary asks, here is the thing he usually wants to take a peek at. ;)

are you using networking at the same time as scope? if not i doubt if those irq shared will make trouble. you might try the other slot to get a free irq anyway or disable the lan connection in the device manager just to be sure. the sata controller is usually no problem.....

i'm thinking it's a setting in cubase.
you did check or uncheck "use system timestamp" correct? which ports are you using? i always say to never use the emulated ports, but maybe they work better on your machine?

Yes, ive done the whole port tests, emulated, timestamp etc. Makes not much of a difference for me however. Tried unticking the Lower Latency box, no difference. Tried with out PDC (as ive heard it may help), no difference. Reinstalled windows, and cubase, no difference. Bought a new GFX card (if u remember my former thread), and no difference.

Im out of options now. :)

well, cubase isn't as tight as logic, i already know this, but that seems extreme. what version of cubase is that?

Yes i know, but as u say yourself, this is a bit extreme.
I can however continue using Logic, but i would like a host that i can settle down in, and not having to worry about the future as much. Logic works fine atm, but i wonder for how long..

- v3 is my version of cubase.

Borrow a usb interface from someone and compare the results to your Creamware card. For me the Creamware cards get tighter midi timing than my Midisport usb one and my older emagic one (parallel, it died). Creamware is on par with my RME as well (which is also pci based).

However I'm thinking it will reveal if it truly is a system/application level issue or some conflict in bandwidth with the Creamware card.

Hi Valis. :)

Yes, thats a good advice. Ill see if i can find someone who can borrow me something like that.

On the other hand, as i said before, Logic works fine, and as i am doin most of my stuff on SCOPE anyway, i might not need anything else after all.

Worth to think about anyway..
