Another problem..
I think it might be a cubase or dongle problem - but i dont know... I have asked in the cubase forums - but feel that you guys here seem to be better at solving these kinda probs
Basically after running either wavelab or cubase for a period of time i go to close the project and the program gives me the dreaded not responding..
what is odd is that in task manager i cannot exit the non responsive prgm..
and cpu goes to 100% - its the system process that takes the cpu and i cant even shut down the computer properly - i have to press the button on the front.
Just to make it all worse i have just bought a new hdd and reinstalled verything from scratch.. it was flying a few days ago but now i keep getting this problem - dunno what it is?
The reason why i thought it could be a dongle problem is that i have recently installed wavelab and transferred my cubase license to that dongle.. but to be honest i've installed quite a few audio progs over the last week - and have not checked it after every installation - mostly cos i havent had time and wanted to get the system up and going...
Anyone with any idea please let me know,
Very frustrated,
Tom

I agree on that one, system restore can also get rid of trojans which embed themselves in ie explorer.

Cheers guys, Why is it only Z that people reply with sensible, informed and useful comments - the other forums i have tried are so unfreindly...Long live Z!

Unfortunately though i have turned off system restore ..DOH! and double Doh! I have disabled some Nvidia bus enumerator that were conflicting with the same IRQ as a USB drive - (to be fair i have no idea what a bus enumerator is :)

Anyway - i sincerely hope its not a trojan, gonna run some scans now - but its literally only been on the web to get updates to SP2, and cubase dloads and other prgm updates/registering - that is all! probably still not enough to guarantee no trojans but i'll see.
On the plus side i did a few tests yesterday and it seems that the prgms didnt crash - but they were only on for bout an hr at a time... problem really manifests itself after a few hours of have ing the computer on..gonna keep iton all day today with cubase running and see what happens...
Thanks again.

I think it from the fact that what "we" do is often to move things around and twiddle with settings and IRQs as opposed to disabling them. Why don't you unplug all you're usb devices reenable everything, disabling the bus enumerater was not a good idea. What you could do is reinstall windows. Not a clean install just the safe one which restores all the system files.Just an Idea

Most the problems I ever had and have are caused by IRQ problems and it is worse now because of all the crap they put on the motherboard.

Thanks for the input guys, unfortunaltey i've just updated the BIOS - no joy
I ran a chkdsk booting from the windows cd - and resotred all the system files as such from there - (is that similar to doing the the reinstall or not?)
It could be a IRQ problem - are there any ways to assign these (i noticed that i think 1-5 can be assigned in the bios - but creamware cards are not sharing - its just the USB that is..
I'll reenable the network bus enumerator

Ok - back again for more!
I'm pretty sure i've isolated the problem, but cant fix it
Basically its that i have 2 IRQ conflicts - the annoying thing is i've just freed up a whole load of IRQs and i cant seem to assign the conflicting ones to the free ones.. DOH
so anyone got any ideas on how to do that?
The conflicts are:
IRQ 20 - Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host controller (with) NVIDIA nForce3 250 Serial ATA Controller (v2.6)
IRQ 21 - Standard Open HCD USB Host Controller (with) NVIDIA Network Bus Enumerator.
I tried unintalling both the nvidia things - but is made no difference - is there a way of uninstalling the USB host controllers and reinstalling them? Would that reassign the IRQ?
BTW - scope is running fine on IRQs 18+19.
I am not using IRQs 2,3,4,5,10,11,12,17.
So frustrating that i got that many free and these 2 conflicts..
All help more than welcome
Thanks again for listneing to the whines!

i don't see a problem there.

it's something else.

you're shutting down both programs before closing scope or changing projects in scope, right?
