New System, I'm Really Exited

Hey cats.

A week ago, my studio died on me. I tried all the techniques and 'pimps' that I knew to get it working, but alas,to no avail. It wasn't gonna do it.
Time for professional help.

So I called my computer guy (brother in Law) and dropped him off my comp.

A week goes by, and me and my girlfriend go over food and socialising, and to pick up my fixed computer. So we get there ...hellos..cup of tea.. yada yada. and say to Matt(BiL) "so hows my comp... did ya fix it"
He looked solemnly at me, brows ruffled and says "no".
OMG devestated..... Matt is a Guru. The king of computers (he runs a company, suplying machines and tech support for local government, schools, private companies, etc. All my technical problems I defer to Matt, and he says he cant fix my computer.OMG.

But then his stern face cracks, and he says "..seriously, I can get it to work, but I gotta put in a new MB the SATA ports are broken"
Thats cool I say, knowing that he gets loads through work and finding one for me is not gonna be a problem.

But then he says.. "..but Ive got you a present.." and points under his desk. and there is this huge black case... "..I've built you a new system, and there it is."

Im so exited to try it... My old one was a VIA chipset on an AMD, but this one is an Intel chipset with a 3g p4, 2g RAM and 3, yes 3 SCSI drives and 2 others.... I had 1 SCSI on my other comp which I used to record audio to, and some other SATA, ATA drives for samples ops sys etc. But now I have 3. I think I got a flying machine here. And its much quieter than my other too

Im copying some files across from the SATA from the other, then Im gonna put my sound cards in, install the software and return to studio heaven.

I'll post the full spec and test results soon as I get it all up, running and perfect.

And even better, the other comp is gonna be fixed up and Im gonna use it as a drum box, running my BFD, and some other VSTs

Goddamn, I'm so exited. I know this thread is of no real interest to anyone other than me, but Im sitting here looking at the beast, and Im just waiting for the files to copy, etc, and I just could keep myself from posting.

Are you going to sync them with wordclock? I'm thinking about setting up something like this in a year.

It's fantastic! It looks like a movie story or something... Amazing... I whish something that cool would happen, but my brother in law knows nothing about computers, and is me who has to help him...

thank y'all for the interest.

Matt is deffinatly the toppest of blokes.
And Ive got my new comp all up and running, tweaked it the way I like/ I got cubase in (tho not 4..Braincell is is worth the uprgrade from 3), my cards up and running 4.5 with no IRQ conflicts.

And I was right.. Its awesome

I gotta finish installing the vst's I use, and then heaps of .dev files from here

, and Im away

Im so happy.. 11 masterverbs .. Studio heaven

I now just cant wait to get the other one back. Im not sure how Im gonna connect em yet . Any thoughts? Does the steinberg system link work, fxTeleport wordclock... I so dont know yet. I got some reading and learning to on this

I don't know if system link prevents jitters like wordclock does, also system link requires two dongles or cracked cubase(s). I would be curious to know how it goes for you.

damn I hadnt thought of that.

maybe, and Im not advocating piracy here, Im thinking economics, Ill get a cracked cubase and try the system link out. Before I buy another copy. I mean if it doesnt work well, it isnt gonna be worth spending on a new cubase. Ill use the money to buy fxTeleport or a wordclock. Anyone with experience of these, let me know how it works for you.

How is everybody here connecting their pcs?

Braincell, I don't use system link or similar, I connected my both computers via ADAT, set my Scope Pro to master (and realized with the friendly help of Shroomz and Astroman, that ADAT cables are one-way

) and use the second system (a Luna is built in) for sts-samples and other software instruments with high polyphony. No jitters, I think. Works fantastic.

You don't have an external clock? I've been told that is more stable.
