G'day,
Excuse me for asking a non Creamware related question, but seeing most of you are tech heads in some form or another, I thought why not ask here?
Basically I am trying to decide on a portable MP3 player to use while jogging and exercising. About 512 MB or 1 GB, with a display (though I dunno if that serves any use), not too expensive but reasonably good quality and very light in weight. I was looking at the Creative Zen Nano Plus or maybe the Samsung YP-U1X.
Would it be better to get one that uses AAA batteries or one that can be recharged via the USB port?
Plus how good are the built in mics for recording? Is it feasible to use for humming out a melody should inspiration hit me while jogging along the beach? How much recording time is there for say the 512 MB models?
Thanks.

It is a wide open question, very difficult to answer as there are hundreds of those little monsters, but you can read and learn about the specifications of 337 here, this will help you to get acquainted, before buying:

Anyway, think of it as a PenDrive too, so bee sure that you get both for the price of one. Some will support recording any kind of files, while others will allow you only MP3. Some may load anything you want and would play back several audio formats, this is also convenient.
I personally find quite good the Acer trademark for those little things. And don’t look for fancy forms, go to the square ones, they are usually better build because of the extra space. You want it to be small, that’s cool, but don’t miss a good choice or pay much more for just 10 or 30 grams, it does not worth the price nor the trouble.
Do not buy through the internet, I mean, before trying the sound. Get your “own” pair of headphones and go to the shops, ask the salesmen to let you try the thing before even thinking about buying it. There are some that may suite the kind of music you like. I know there is an important different between brands, as they tend to sound too bright sometimes, or too dark, or they don’t have enough loudness for you to listen in any circumstances like travelling in a plane, or a metro. I have tried out some cheap brands that sounded great, and some expensive that sounded like crap, so be careful, try them “before” you buy.
That’s about it, good luck!

I got my girlfriend a samsung cos she wanted a flash drive and I thought why not get an mp3 player at the same time . The samsung sounds surprisingly good with the standard phones and is usb charged which is not a problem at all . wav. recording sounds pretty good too although she wont let me take it to a rehearsal so I dont know about recording a band but I reckon you could succesfully talk a song idea idea into it .The samsung software is a doddle too .
Cheers
