Well i', gonna throw a spanner in the works and say that i dont think cry babys are the best - they sound a bit too clinical to me - dont like the morleys either - i have a vox with is very nice - i really like the colour sound ones - a much more mellow tone - cant get hendix screams out of it but its perfect for a funky rhythm IMHO, and recently i tried on by an aussie company i think its called ashon, maybe ashton, one of the 2, anyway - it was £40 compared with the 70-90 quid cry baby - and really the difference was minimal in quality...
Unfortuately most wahs are really noisy.. you can get a small op done by a good guitar shop that gets them "true" true-bypass - i would recommend that.

i agree in a way.

crybaby is not my favorite ither. its kind of the standart. like a fender strat.

i usualy go for wahs that have more charecter.

the wahs i made were tuned to sound like some famouse wahs. so i did a great deal of measuring of wahs.

the crybaby looses resonance in the low end, which makes it impossible to make creamy oowwwohhh pads from the guitar. however its upper range is very rock oriented. jimmy hendrix sound. so you can realy talk with it.

vox doesnt loose the resonance in the low end and it also saturates faster, wich let you have those velvety lows. but its high end is not as piercing as the crybaby.

mu-tron is an auto-wah that can be transformed to pedal very easily. this is by far the most funky effect i have ever used. its vert throughty, very resonant smooth and fast. if your after parlement sound, joe zawinull's wah rhodes. thats the wah for you.

I used to have a Cry-Baby but although I did like the sound very much found it a little too noisy and perhaps with too much "wah-wah range" (if that makes any sense).

I intend to get another one day (although something different I think), but in the meantime tend to borrow my friend's when I need one

finally, it's just a matter of taste and for what kind of music you'll use it...

yep, they're all good!

my favorites?
the crybaby and it's cousins. many people don't know that the response is adjustable...the vox is an earlier version of the same pedal and it's probably a little nicer effect.

dod fx57? i beleive that's the number... it's small, very clean and transparent sounding.

morley, all the different versions..a different vibe than the crybaby.

get them all..

cant have enough wahs!

by the way. here is a tip.
crybaby gets louder on higher frequencies.

this is one of its most distinctive musical properties... this is becouse the guitar usualy doesnt have alot of high frequency content, and you need to amplify those frequencies for an even loudness.

so, all you need to do, is take a bandpass filter (lowpass can also work amaizingly!) and use an external val to control both its frequency (through the mod input) and its velocity (through a VCA mod input).

it wont be a 100% wahwah, but musicaly it will behave alot more like one!

you can also use it to control resonance amount if you want a more rockish sound...

Unfortunately I don’t any longer have one; I left it behind long time ago. What I do if I need my guitar to sound like this, well, I first record the guitar lead or rhythm section, having in mind how I want for it to sound by the end. Then I apply a simple EQ and assign to it a MIDI learn through the modulation wheel, then through the wheel I apply the amount of effect I want to the musical line. It is not so intense or good, but well... it does the effect.

I will agree with anybody telling me that it is not the same to express emotions directly with the wah at your foot, but well, when you don’t have one, it does... anyway
