reminds me of those older casio keyboards... I beleive the preset would be piano. I can't even remember what those things were called.. it had a rhythm section..

This sounds terrible man! This demo doesn't do John Bowen or his synths any favours what so ever! Dear doctor, I've played a real prophet & within seconds (not minutes) got an astonishingly 'different' sounding synth tone, as is possible on any prophet! Whatever happened to chords without playing chords?

Gee, thanks for the feedback guys. This really encourages me.

I tried to make 14 demo sounds that were as different as possible, my mistake I guess.

I spent one day creating some sounds and another recording these quick demos. I never made any claim to them being professional, I was just tryig to show the range of sounds that the instrument was capable of producing. Calling it a bad sound on it's own seems a little unfair, maybe somwewhere there is mix that needs a thin little sound like this.

Well, I learned my lesson, next time I won't bother.

BTW, I have owned a Prophet 5 since 1981, and I know that it makes lots of varied sounds... maybe you have your own preconceptions as to what a "Prophet" should sound like.

I own (around) 14 different of those infamous Casios and I must say...
sorry, your demo matches none of them

I like the 'dry as bones' attempt very much - as a demo it suffers a bit from the lack of longer notes with an evolving tone.

nevertheless it is an extremely good sound, it has substance and a few faint details that a cheapo soundsource can never produce.
Try the same with a simple VSTi without fx and you'll know...

Use it to test the tail of the latest reverb (ouch...) or make the STW CD100 pop your eyes

cheers, tom

I haven't been here for ages, I mean, to the music forum.

It’s true. Sounds cannot be taken by themselves as good or bad, but in “contrast” with something else. I don’t think the sound in this demo is bad, but the performance is not very musical, and this is the reason the sound is perhaps perceived as not being good. If you were to do a toy-like song with that preset, it would much very well the need, just my comment.

Anyway, we know you did it with good intentions, I have also received sometimes bad critics and this is not always bad, I think that, on the contrary, helps us to grow on understanding, because those who sincerely assess and criticise us, are our real mentors in terms of creativity. I have learned much from all the critics I have received through the years here in the Z.

Don't worry and take it easy
