Any of you people using Logic with Pulsar/Scope using both the EXS-24 and one of the STS samplers? How do you like it? Does having one make the other one not as useful?

Subject: EXS 24 vs. STS 4000

I have both on a Mac G4/400 Pulsar II.I have a problem vith the sound quality on the STS 4000 (maybe the next upgrade...) however they make a perfect couple i think. You have the sep. outputs and massive polyphony of the STS 4000 and the directness and integration with EXS 24.For speed and ease of handling the EXS 24 is so much better but i miss the sep. outs for drums and the computer slows down when playing lots of voices. So i think they complement each other very well.

well, I did a benchmark recently, l tested the sts-4000 (2 ms
latency), with only extra beeing the the big mixer, with a pulsar I
soundcard (4 sharc dsp) in a p III 600 system, l setted the poliphony up to
24 voices loadedinstruments and directed then to the individual (mono) outputs and begined to add (1) insert
effects in each outputs, the dsp resources where almost at it´s limit when l
added the (1rst) effect for the fifth output l was almost out of dsp
resources, that is five instruments with 1 effect, 11 without, and 24 vocies
poliphony.

Rival system, Atlhon 1.1 Ghz running logic audio and the exs -24 sampler
(sorry Steimberg, but halyon isn´t stil out to compete) with the asio
drivers of a powersampler soundcard (latency 4 ms, at least thats the claim
from creamware, anyway l don´t percive mayor latency that in the sts ).
l opened 8 instances of the sampler (with the default poliphony, l think it
is 16 per instance) and loaded instruments for them, l added insert effects
for all of them of aroudn the sam equality to the ones used in the pulsar),
l could get 8 insert effects with no problem, to be sure l recorded a track
with used all of them with at least 3 voices of poliphony in each instance
and the system runned very stable so l guess that l could have added two pro
v with insert effects with no problem (but not sure, l don´t know if logic
has a cpu usage indicator).

So the winner seems to be the atlhon by far, of course it is no all that
easy because at least in that sytem if l add more than two audio tracks l
get a cracled sound untill l set the latency in the powersampler asio to 13
ms (and if many audiotracks to 23 ms), even if l don´t use any
sofsynth/sampler, but these seems to be related to a falliure of the system
configuration, or perhaps of the drivers, don´t know for sure, anyway, if l
only need a system to run sofsynths /samplers the 1.1 atlhon looks more
powerfull that a pulsar 1.
