You reached dsp limit before any pci overflow, right? On 2006-07-05 01:38, mjproc wrote:

This is the best benchmarked motherboard I've used, but sadly only 2 pci slots on this mobo....

Masterverb Test Thread
I tested my pc, and I never had such a bad performance that I find in that test.
P4 I865 2.6 Ghz. On a QDI board P4I865PEA.(intel chipset)
2Gb RAM (DDR 320)(3 years old motherboard and processor). With Scope Pro+Pulsar I+Pulsar I SRB (23 dsp's). And Geforce 6200
I get the PCI overflow at the MV'9.
And de DSP load counter is less than 50%.
I usually work in projects that use more than the 75% of dsp's.
But in that test, my computer gets a really horrible place .
I've made a WinXP easy and tweaked install with NLITE (nliteos.com) but maybe is tweaked too much to get a good performance?
What I'm doing wrong?
Help !!!!!
I know that I can work with a better computer performance.
Thanks

that's exactly the same value Katano mentions in the 'Type II Versus Type I cards'-thread when he runs a generation one board together with a recent PowerPulsar. On 2006-07-18 01:05, ibz01 wrote:

With only generation 2 boards expect between 12 and 16 Masterverbs instead of 9 (according to the average results that have been posted)
These figures are not related to the DSP load at all, and whether they 'degrade' your system depends only on the use of heavy reverbs like the STW Ambience (obviously the top scorer in PCI demand)

yep, and with 2 type2 boards it was not the pci overflow message i got. it was a "could not connect..." or somewhat like this message. even if i've installed 5 S/TDM cables between my two powerpulsarstom wrote: that's exactly the same value Katano mentions in the 'Type II Versus Type I cards'-thread when he runs a generation one board together with a recent PowerPulsar.

here my setup, just for the record:
1) - Asus P4C-800E-DLX (yes, this one has 6 PCI slots EDIT: 5 Slots.
- P4 3.0 GHz (Northwood)
- 2 GB RAM (4x KVR400X72C3A/512) ECC
2) - 1x Pulsar2 Classic
- 1x Scope Home
(current, but variable setup)
- additional sb live platinum and 3ware sata controller (we remember: 5 slots )
3) MSI GeForce 5900XT AGP Card
4) 12 MV before dsp limit reached
9 MVPro before dsp limit reached
no PCI overflow
assuming that "empty environment" means a really empty routing window I cleared off everything, including i/o modules, though the (no-so-precise) dsp load meter didn't seem to notice a change after closing the mixer.
I also noticed that opening another mv instance brings up the dsp limit message, if reached. closing this instance brings up the message again, and the red led on the dsp meter stucks lit, until you close another instance, leaving me 11 in that case.
personally I can recommend this board, not only for having that much slots. mine is stable and allows me free assigning (free to a certain amount of irqs to slots for irq sharing avoidance. at that time I bought it it was one of the few integrating all kinds of peripheral communication ports onboard (such as gb lan, iee1394, usb2, and, yes, even sound , though sharing resources with pci slots, but leaving the slots free.
-greetings, markus-
EDIT:
I don't know what is altering my memory, but of course this board has only 5 pci slots. still enough, and after all, I can get rid of the sb live the very moment I have a solution for the headphones socket going away with the live drive...

I'm sorry, but my karma just ran over your dogma.
I'm sorry, but my karma just ran over your dogma.
check this out after the masterverbtest.
asus ic7g, prescott 3.0, 2g ram
asus nvidia 6800ultra agp8
pulsar2+scope pro= 20dsps (first the pulsar2 and second the scope pro because scope pro as board0 gives dsp capacity reached very soon)
i mention that the results are quite similar if i set 44.1 or 48. in 96khz it is different cause each module needs much more dsp power and i get the dsp capacity message soon.
ully settings make not much difference in 44,1 and 48khz.
well i have the empty routing window now.
11 masterverbs pro without message
12 masterverbs pro dsp capacity message.
no pci overflow message.
this is kind of limitation not according to dsp power i suppose because it reaches only about half dsp power.
with 11 masterverb pros and after i can load other modules easily, for ex i load minimax and raise polyphony till the 100% of dsp power, or in combination with other modules
PLEASE CHECK THIS YOU GUYS:
i changed a little the test and in an empty project i started loading optimasters.
does this happen to you??
i load 5 optimasters and on the 6th scope shuts down.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
nomatter full or empty routing window.
5 is the limit, 6 freezes scope for 2,3 seconds and sfp is shutdown at once!

i know it is beyond needs but it is not beyond dsp power.
i mean how can this happen?
it is just testing sfp behaviour.
just try and tell me. i am curious. is it just my scope that reacts this way?
in the past i had problems with sfp needs to close messages when i loaded samplers.
i solved it after clean xp installation.
i think that the issue has to do with knowing scopes litle problems and getting more experienced to its behaviour.
for example if i wanted to just try use more than 5 optimasters in a multichannel project just to see how it sounds, since i have 20 dsp power shouldn't that be ok?
i mean hoe can i reach about 100% with just adding polyphony in synths and not be able to test if i like in extreme situation?
i don't want to be neggative about scope but the truth is that the ONLY indicator we have all scope users is the dsp meter.
how else do we now what is going to happen?
now in the middle of a project i will not try to load more than five optimasters because all of system will collapse. but who tells me about other secret bad combinations in the middle of working?

so much for curiosity...

nomatter full or empty routing window.

you're lucky. I can load 4, and the 5th gives me first a hint that he's missing a dsp file (something containing "oscar"). then doc watson comes up and scope is gone. but it gets even worse... in that special case I ended up with a bad bad freeze. be sure I won't test drive that again..
I have to admit this is no fresh install of win2k. it lasts for more than 2 years now, and I experiment a lot, including several installs of scope. but this error seems systematic. kids don't try this at home... :/

curiosity?.......... not only.
i am not even 1% of thomas edissons mind but i will borrow what he said to a friend when he failed over 1000 times to make a batery work.
i have discoverded 1000 ways of not working.
so day by day we discover more and more occasions that scope won't work
