Thanks Huub, nice to be back.
Not happy with the middle section - drags a bit and the perc is boring. Still, I'm writing again!!!
You mean I've done a half decent mix???
Must go to the clinic
BTW - How's Holland?

2. In total confusion

The law and order policy of Minister Verdonk, supported by her own liberal-democratic party and the other parts of the coalition- forced Verdonk to the decision to declare the passport of miss Ayaan Hirsi Ali, member of Verdonk's own party, false.
Now that this idiot policy ('rules are rules') hits one from their own ranks they start whining.
It was an interesting night on tellie, as nongouvernamental parties worked together with the gouvernamental ones to get Verdonk on her knees.
At the end the minister had to promise to rethink the decision

Ah Neils sequencing work. A pleasure to listen to this.
You know I was always to lazy to go into this meticulous work, a triplet here a variation there, great. Also it gives me a smile when I hear those shortly played dis and gis on the strings, very TDish.
I agree with Huub its a good mix, for my taste this track could stand with some more maximation. A maximizer to gain another aprox. 2db would do the job.
You are right with your little concerns about the middle part. It doesn´t tally(hope it is the right word) to the end. I would use the middle part to let the elves fly.
Maybe some kind of escalation(its already there) into some levitating and not fall back like you do now. Then fading out with the last part.
I am not sure about the drums in general.
No, I haven´t used some.
Anyway, you got your mood back, great.

Thanks for the comments Chris.
I'm not going to spend any more time on this one - it's got me back into it and that was all that mattered.
I spent some time, but not a lot on raising the levels, but could have spent a bit more time, I know, on editing out some peaks. I think it's the modular bass in the middle section that limited the overall level.
Glad you still like my sequencing anyway!

nice arpeggiating and dark, mysterious atmosphere. The space is wide, but filled with something a little more dense than air. But basically, I'm just saying it's got a dark tone to it, focused around the mid lows.
I'd tend to shift the central frequency for different parts of the tune, especially in the drums part, where Chris suggests "flying". You could shift the center frequency to a higher range, or emphasize it more on top of the mid-low emphasis you have going on right now to create a broader spectrum for that part. Anyway, inspiring stuff!

Thanks for the tips Ken.
Seeing as how all our plans for the year have been totally demolished big-time (again), I'm going to have more time for the old music hobby.
Top of my list is to spend more time studying mixing/effects etc instead of writing a track and moving on to the next one, so I'll take your tips on board.
Glad you liked it.

Hi Ken,
The answer is "Yes", lots of things have gone wrong or are going wrong:
As you may know, we nearly moved to the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland last summer, but the logistics were wrong and the weather wasn't right for our life-style.
Anyway, we fell in love again with Aviemore and the Cairngorm mountains area of Scotland and have decided that is where we want to live - definite.
We decided in January/February of this year to spend 6 months there in a rented house while we researched the correct part to live in and looked at some properties. Of course we would have a great 6 month holiday at the same time.
We chose a property and Jan's boss (our vicar) told her she could have 6 months off and if it didn't work out, her job was still there for her. But 3 days before we signed for it the owner (in America) decided he could make much more money by renting it as a holiday cottage, so the deal fell through.
In March we went to look at another property or 2 and were close to clinching the deal.
Jan (my perfect wife) had to go into hospital for a day for a minor operation/procedure. She had this and all was well for a week and then the pains started. To cut a long story short, they did something wrong during the operation and damaged some nerves. Investigations are still going on to determine what the problem is. She had ultrasound scans 3 weeks ago (but they don't show up any nerve damage).
Results are expected in a few weeks time.
The hospital denies that they did anything wrong and say that it is a coincidence that she has this complaint now.
What does it do to Jan?
Well, she is in a lot of constant pain and semi-disabled. She can not bike, do any gardening, can not always sit comfortably, has continual pain and numbness, can not walk for any length of time or distance and much more.
She has some medication and that means no alcohol (I'm drinking her whisky
).
All in all, she is unwell, and by her standards of fitness, effectively disabled. Nerve damage can take years to mend, if at all and things look bleak.
Of course, it is impossible to have a holiday, whether it is for a week or 6 months because of the treatment and appointments with the hospital and doctors.
On top of that, it is no use having a holiday if Jan can't enjoy it. And fulfilling our life ambition of moving to the mountains of Scotland is useless if you can only sit at the bottom of the mountain looking at them, instead of charging up and down them on mountain bikes.
On top of that, her mother, who really is a lovely woman, has turned on the emotional blackmail and effectively told Jan that it is her duty to forfeit her life until her mother dies, and to live always within 5 Km of her. Based on the fact that her mum will probably live another 15 years, that would put me & Jan in our mid - 60's and I don't fancy doing 4000 ft of vertical mountain biking at that age. Of course, I totally disagree with her mother and it won't stop us, but we're getting a lot of poison from her about anything.
It is extremely hard to maintain a compassionate Christian attitude when someone is pulling your doll out of the cupboard and sticking pins in it

So, yes, things are a mess.
Not really a good climate for writing music eh?
But, with the plans to move scuppered, I haven't got as many commitments as other years because we had planned not to be here - so I can spend some quality time studying music production and mixing - small comfort really but I may as well get on with it.
And then we come to the bad bits ............
(just kidding)

I suppose though that you have to find humour in these things and I forgot this bit:
We were ready to put our house on the market and just to make it a bit more saleable we decided to change the wooden exterior doors for Upvc ones.
Of course you cannot screw coat hooks to these doors so I spent £7 on a nice coat rack to put on the wall.
I drilled through a mains cable
Due to the way the builders had put our extension on the house many years ago, it was not an easy job for the electrician to repair - cost £400
When taking up the floorboards to get at some of the wiring we discovered damaged floorboards - cost £10
The underlay for the carpet was also perished so that had to be replaced - cost £15
The plasterer only charged about £20 to plaster over where the electrician had had to chisel the wall out.
Decorating costs for the same room, once the plaster had dried - £50
Replacement electric drill, melted when I drilled through the cable - £70
We have the most expensive coatrack in the UK

Who says life isn't interesting !!!

holy cow, so do you have an attorney or some sort of legal support for your wife's case? I hope it's a transient problem, whatever it is.. I mean, you might be able to work with her mum, but it must be a dozen times harder to try to negotiate with a damaged nerve. I wish your wife well. Tough times, medication, and whisky don't mix.. that sucks.
About time this returned to being a thread on a music forum, but thanks for your obvious concern Ken (and everyone else).
It's a free health service in the UK but you do sign a form before they do anything in the repair shop and of course there is always an element of risk.
Yeah, real bummer about the whisky though.
I can't "work with her mother" because if she suggests that her daughters life is forfeit, that means that mine is too. If I've forfeited my life, I'm effectively dead so it's easy not to do anything for her
(apologies to members who've lost loved ones in recent years - I'm not taking life lightly or flippantly).
The irony of course is that if Jan is supposed to live close to her mother to look after her - she can't because the surgeon messed it all up - so we may as well not be living here.
My brain hurts, Brian.
Anyway - let's get back to the music eh?
