Instead of me asking dumb questions about Solaris w/ Flexor,ModIII, and BiOsc. Is there any documents that I can read about basic configurations regarding RD inserts and other modules into Solaris? Also would like to read about this new form of modular synthesis? Lastly, can I apply my old style ARP 2600, SEM knowledge to this scenario?

I don't own Solaris, but I think that you should explore the Modular to see the functionalities and to learn what modules do you have to an eventual use with Solaris.

Any knowledge you have will be useful for sure, and in some sense the "clocking" or sequencing FleXor modules, as at0m pointed in another thread, for the fact that use ramp to sync each other(supertight sync signal, not async like MIDI) have more similarity with the "vintage" concepts.

Anyway, it won't be difficult, some experimentation can be useful. Have a look also to the already made stock patches from CWA and Adern....and a brief reading of the manual on the modular basics (connections, MVC use etc.) can save a lot of time.

I think that you can have 3-4 hard days to memorize some peculiarities and after that your experience will make it very easy.

Ask if you have doubts, I can point you to some good modulars or show you directly.

At0mic posted a collection of useful links regarding synthesis and the modular concepts. There might be something along the lines you are asking for here:

Happy reading

Thank You Both,
I realize, as I did back in the '70's w/ the modular synths that were at my disposal, that this was right up my alley. For I know what I want to hear in my head, and need to learn how to adapt that train of thought to my gear. Modular demos I heard from a couple of young guys I met in Japan were very impressive. For Isao Tomita was my favorite Moog Modular 100 guy back then, I loved Keith Emerson's sounds and playing, but Tomita made me aware of the real strengths of modular synthesis. I have only done a few tricks w/ ModIII, but realize that this is my next venture.

See my post in this thread for another fun thing to do with Modular and an external synth like Solaris:

Already purchased Flexor and read that thread. I hope you guys don't mind me busting your balls everyday. I have a bad habit of staying up for hours on end with Scope, and will continue to do so. This platform is a never ending source of amazement to me. I must have this stuff dialed in by this summer, for my new gig is at the most decadent club in the history of Las Vegas. I'm confident with you guys helping me that we will sucseed in providing a fresh face upon the sounds of synthesis. I knew back in 1975 that synths would rule the world, and this is a synth orientated nightclub. They have already told us to update our SAG cards for lots of shows will be filming in there. I pray that they use our actual performance so people can hear the fatness of Scope and Kyma.

The information you guys gave me is much appreciated. The Nord Modular book by Clark is exactly where I need to start. Then I will reverse engineer some of these great examples in the Modular patch thread for better understanding. I demo'd the Nord Modular for a couple of weeks back in 1998 but didn't care for it's digital sound. This was brand new then and probably has developed much further since. I regret not sticking with it a little longer. To build systems like this with electronic circuits would be quite costly, so this is very sensible. I was building an 8 Oscillator package with the guy an Analogics a few years back, and decided when we hit the 8000 USD mark that I would still use my XPander instead. My biggest gripe is that when I'm playing live, I doubt I could re-patch during a performance. I tried this on the ARP2600S and it was very frustrating. This is a great concept here, calling up modular presets. I wish I had this back in the day.

Now that you have FleXor, check out this fatness monster I've done with at0m sometime ago. It's inspired by a minimoog in structure, but imagine to be able to XY-fade between all the waveforms in each oscillator and to have 2 filters, 4 pole and 8 pole....

I am waiting for my activation key from CWA. So I am in a state of mourning till Flexor arrives. Their automated server is useless, thank God their products are excellant. I am learning my way around ModIII today. Flexosaurus is such an appropriate name, I'm sure I will love it when I hear it on Monday.
Will let you know soon.
