in fact, my cynisme was more adressed to Google, collaborating recently with the dictatorial attitude of the Chinees party...by excluding specific Google search results (websites)...

Just... I know I already said something similar, but...
Unluckly I'm largely supporting that system. The most of the audio gear I can afford is built using Chinese labour.

No manufaturer, however, specify where the product is built, in the advertisements and web sites. I buy things, open the boxes and read "made in China" or " made in PCR".
The first time I read "PCR" I was in a dizziness moment and thougt: "PCR? A new plastic material?"

Well, I'm not a big fan of China (I think what they have done to Tibet is disgusting) but what you're saying is pretty hypocritical IMHO. Everyone is a slave throughout the world - if you don't work you don't get money and you don't eat. Likewise, in most places in the world, if you meddle in political matters, the people who have that power are not going to be happy and will do whatever they can to neutralize you.

Just because the wages are lower in China doesn't necessarily mean anything - the local economy is always tuned to the earning levels of the local people. Also, you'd be surprised how 'westernized' China is - they are all well on their way to being stupified by the trademarks of democracy - Coke, fast food, designer clothes, and all the rest.

Sorry again; just now I realize that has no sense for people without Italian language knowledge. We use often use the preposition "in" meaning "of", when talking about building materials.

There are certainly plenty of attrocities committed by our world's governments leaders & dictators. It's almost becoming too may to keep account of, but what are society's slaves to do? Stand up & fight? mmm. but then you'd be a terrorist based on your beliefs against certain societal beliefs or laws & be shot on sight, by yank soldiers who call anything that moves a gook.

I think eliam nailed it, but no 'earth day' is gonna build solar, wind & hydro power stations capable of replacing our nuclear ones in a hurry. The cheap & easy route for governments to solve power issues in the short term is to build more nuclear reactors, which is exactly what they are doing or planning in many countries.. sigh

It seems that, considering the installation expenses and the cost of the radioactive waste disposal, nuclear energy is not that cheap.
And its price could rise; the risk increase in proportion with the proliferation of power plants; not just for neighbours.
Nevertheless, looking forward, also the uranium is a resource bound to worn out in the next fifty years.
They're just defering the problem.

About nuclear for military:
If anyone has Nasa Worldwind installed, check nuclear explosions add on.
The number of test made is simply awful.

Adding all up, I seriously doubt that nuclear has improved life quality.

In the block Impatto globale (you could try Google language tool) is asserted that the Chernobyl accident released 400 times more radiations than the Hiroshima bomb, but from 100 to 1000 times less than nuclear weapon tests made in the middle of the XX century...

In the tail of the first block 'La centrale' (The plant) is asserted:
The reactor aim was the production of electricity for civil uses and plutonium for military. Technical solutions reducing safety levels was adopted for efficiency increasing purposes. First of all the choice of graphite as moderator: this material is used for neutron moderation and above all for Plutonium-239 production facility.

20 years ago on 26th of April 1986 at 01:24:47 the reactor n°4 of the Chernobyl plant exploded.

Unluckly many people is firmly convinced that the right direction for the civilization is the one right also for their immediate comfort. Moreover the profit interest often prevail over the common sense.

I've just read all this thread again and my memories have been carried back to a movie I've seen in the end of the 70s.
The China syndrome.
