Where Have My Audio Instrument Record Buttons Gone In Logic

Hello,

Not too long ago I reformatted my PC and reinstalled all my software (if only I had thought of imaging software like Acronis earlier-would have saved me a lot of hassle).
Anyway, I have only just noticed on Logic 5.5.1 for PC that the record buttons for Audio Instruments are not there, which means I can't record my Audio Instruments such as EXS 24 etc...., though I can play them. How did that happen and how can I get the record button back?

Excuse me for asking Logic related questions on this forum, but the people here seem to be far more informative and helpful than any other forums I belong to.

Confused here.... do you mean a bounce button? Audio instruments never had those - only master channels have them (i.e. the final output ASIO channels).

No, I don't mean bounce buttons. For example in the arrange page, you see a button with R (circled) which arms the track for recording.

On my other PC where I have Logic installed (the same version-5.5.1) I do have the record buttons. I at least have them in my Arrange Page, but not in the mixer page (though if I remember rightly, I am pretty sure I used to have them in the mixer page too).

Just pressing record in the transport doesn't work. I can record Audio but not Audio Instruments(soft synths).

I don't have Logic open (I'm having a nice break from the studio over the Easter holidays) but I don't think I've ever seen record arming buttons in the audio environment page. Perhaps you're confusing the Track mixer and full Environment mixer? I don't use the Track mixer much so I can't remember if that has record arming buttons or not.

As far as I know, Logic's VST handling requires you to have Audio Instrument tracks selected for recording. In this respect they don't work in strictly the same way as normal MIDI tracks.

Afaik there are no record buttons in the mixer or environment for midi ojects and audioinst objects, only for audio tracks.

In the ARRANGE page you can get your record buttons back by doing View > Record Switch

Only for the audio tracks not audio instruments. As I said, on my other PC I have record buttons for both Audio tracks and Audio Instruments.

Sounds like you need to copy over your autoload.lso and logic32.prf files from your old machine. There are about a bazillion options to set up in Logic... you can save yourself the hassle by copying your autoload and prefs files.
