now that all the components i have ordered have arrived, i am ready to assemble my new PC:

the OLD one:
asus p4b533
P4 2.4 GHz
1 GB Ram kingston

the NEW one:
asus p4c800-e deluxe
p4 3GHz
2 GB RAM corsair twinX, low latency (CL2)

and, of course, 3 creamware board+1 soundblaster live (mainly for MIDI stream)
3HDD (80GB (system and data) + 160GB (samples+music projects) + 20GB (sonar wavedata only) )

it awaits me a LOOONG weekend to reinstall my 2 systems ("normal PC" + audio production)

but i'm very happy!

May offer you a suggestion, copy your old installation directory to the new system then just reinstal SFP into that directory, this way you wont have to reinstall all of your plugins.

Yea, that's true Bosone. I do it with "Devices" and with "DSP, as they are always mising if you only transfer the "Devices" folder.

Of course you must be happy! Enjoy the process of installing your new system man, and let us know how everything compares to your old system.

I am also interested, because your old system is pretty similar to the one I own right today.

Good luck and congratulations

Why not use the 20GB disk for System and data and the 80 GB for wavedata and files?

because 20 GB for the wavedata are more than sufficient (i never used thw whole drive!)
moreover, i can format the 20 GB without problems, and using the HDD without partitions and other files saved on it shuold speed it up a bit...

one FULL day in front of the monitor....
i installed 2 entire operating system, but now i'm almost finished

a little test show a huge performance increment with respect to the old system.
now i can open 5 full instances of garritan personal orchestra + the garritan ambience reverb and i'm below 65% CPU power!

not bad!
even if i have strange IRQ assignment for CW cards (2 IRQ5 shared, 1 IRQ 9 - if i remember well - shared with a mother board resource) in standard PC i still dont' experience any problems.
but extensive testing in some serious project has still to be done...
for now, i played with some BIG kontakt2 piano with high polyphony and convolution reverb, and got very good results!

I used to have my dual system set up as standard PC and could not get the CPU temperature below 40 deg F. Recently I switched to ACPI and the temps now are 32-36F. In conclusion, I think the CPU throttle down feature works only with ACPI enabled.
