Sound/rec problems within Cubase 51R1

I recently bought Creamware Luna 2. As I'm pretty new to the virtual cable project platform, I've struggled quite much to configure my card. Thus, only in general:) I use only a Yamaha CS6X synth in my production, along with HALion and GS. However, I get MIDI signals within Cubase, but I can't record any signals. It seems like Cubase can't communicate with the Luna environment as I've set it up. I use both the surround and recording mixer in the Luna project, still I don't know for sure if I've connected all the modules and cables (links) correctly. I find it a bit difficult. I use the 24-bit wav modules, ASIO 2 24-bit modules; I've made sure that the Audio's enabled in Cubase. And the ASIO Scope is chosen in the system configuration. Strangely is, that within HALion (Steinberg's software sampler); while I'm in edit mode, I can preview the samples I've loaded into HALion, but I can't use my kaybord (CS6X) to play them. Really frustrating.. Thus I can play the internal sounds on my CS6X; but still, problems recording the notes. What could be wrong? Could somebody please help me out? Maybe if someone could supply me with a project setup. Somebody with a Luna 2 board, a external keyboard (where the internal sounds are in use), included any softsynths like HALion, GS, Reaktor..? I'm pretty desperate here, I've tried so many different solutions; but I'm very newbie, so the reason's probably my lack of knowledge:) I sure hope somebody might help me out a little. If you could list your Luna software version and the version of Windows you're using, that would be infinitely helpful in helping you.

I have Windows 98 (first edition), and Luna 2 v2.5.

Computer specs:

Asus A7A266
AMD Athlon 1,4
512 DDR
Luna 2

Well if you're hearing audio auditioning samples then you probably have your Wave Source wired up correctly; if you're not hearing audio with your audio tracks or VST instruments, then it sounds like you may not have your ASIO2 Source module wired correctly.

A good starting project for audio work is as follows:
DirectSound Source-> Recording Mixer
Wave Source -> Recording Mixer
Wave Source 2(drag a 2nd one) -> Recording Mixer
ASIO2 24bit Source -> Recording mixer
Recording Mixer L&R output -> Analog Destination

Now you should be able to hear VST instruments and audio in Cubase; you'll have more setup to do in regards to latency timings to find the proper values for your system.

Still I haven't rewired yet; I just wanted to know if it's nescessary to have my surround mixer in the project? Because at the moment, all the different module sources goes through the aux ports on the surround mixer (Luna analog source, Asio 2 source, wav source), then the recording mixer and into the Luna analog destination. (also Asio and wav destination). You mentioned that I should connect the different modules through the recording mixer? So there's no point in having the sur -mixer within the project? It's a whole new world to me:) A lot of experimenting..

I just wanted to describe how I've connected the different modules together in the project:

Luna SPDIF source => Wave dest 2
Wave source 2 => Luna SPDIF dest
24 bit wav source 1 => Surround mixer (Aux1L,1R)
Luna analog source => Surround mixer (Aux2L,2R)
Asio 24 bit source => Surround mixer (Aux3L,3R)

Surround mixer out L,R => Rec mixer (Aux1L,1R)
Surround mixer Aux 2 => Rec mixer (Aux2L,2R)
Surround mixer Aux 3 => Rec mixer (Aux3L, 3R)

Recording mixer out L,R => Luna analog destination, 24 bit wave dest 3 and Asio 2 dest

Regarding the Midi connection, I did something stupid earlier, because I rewired the Midi modules so many times (to get the recording functioning properly), that now I don't get any Midi signals within Cubase. Very clever!:) Any ideas?:)

*ANY* midi you'd like to record in Cubase from Luna should be connected "midi source" => "Sequencer Destination".

Open Cubase's "Setup MME", activate Pulsar/Luna Midi as input. For this SetupMME to recognise your Luna midi ports, you might have to open the Luna project first. After enabling a midi source in Setup MME, you should get midi input in Cubase. You can monitor that on the transport panel (midi I/O).
If not, chk Cubase->Midi options->...(top choise)->inputs. The Luna Midi Source should be standard activated...

Oh yeah, I hope you know how to record in Cubase. Easiest: select a midi track. If multi-channel recording is active, select a midi in channel (this is the channel sending the midi!) and activate the track.

I just removed the surround mixer from my project setup, since I don't need that anymore. I connected the different modules into the Aux ports on the recording mixer.
Except the Asio module which I connected through the Init 3 and 4 -in ports, and through the Init 3 and 4 -out ports. The midi modules : Luna midi source => Sequencer midi dest, and Sequencer midi source => Luna midi dest. But, the strange thing is, that I only receive signals while I'm in the project setup. When I save the project (enabling the default and background checkboxes in settings), and quits, then starting Cubase, I don't get any sigals! Why? Do I have to be within the project setup (minimizing the prog), to get signals in Cubase? Strange.. But now that I've removed the surround mixer, I can play the VST instruments through my keyboard:) Great this far! Thus, I can't record anything!! Only play and listen!:) Any ideas?? Leave your Creamware application open with your sequencer, then you can still adjust all the parameters of the mixers and synths and effects. Don't close it.

I don't understand..

I'm starting to get really frustrated here; 20 minutes ago, I launched Logic Audio Platinum 4.81; just to check how the Midi and recording was functioning compared to Cubase.

Well, interesting results.. I can audition the sounds (like Cubase), and I can even record in Logic (unlike Cubase). However, I can't use HALion with Logic, since Logic doesn't support Vst instruments or samplers (i think).. so I'm in a real difficult situation here. I could use logic, but then I would call it "giving up", and I really need to use my HALion sampler.

But why the sound recording problems in Cubase, and not Logic?? Is it because Logic doesn't use Asio? Are all this troubled because of the Asio? I need to find a way to fix this rec problem.. any ideas?:) I appreciate all the great support.. Thanks alot! Best regards, -Trax-

Logic is better

But seriously, you can use VST instruments in Logic I think (although I don't), and Logic also uses ASIO.

Okay:) That sounds great!:) Vst in Logic! In fact I've used Logic quite much, until I reached my hand on HALion. I never figured out how to load the Vst's into Logic..

How do I get HALion vst sampler to work under Logic? Where should I enable vst, and how do I load HALion when I'm inside Logic?

PS. I'm no experienced Logic user either, since I've always used the most common commands, and functions. I'll bet I only know 1/100th of the possibilities within Logic..

When you are in the audio section ( the big screen full of fader) find faderes called AudioInstr 1-24.

Click and hold you left mouse boutton on the grey rectangle on the top of the strip, and choose your instruments.

But for VST to be visible in Logic, create a VSTPlugins directory in the installation directory of Logic, and copy your VST instrument there. Same thing with PulsarXTC instruments...

When you install Halion you install it in the VST Plug-ins folder in Logic. Then you open it in an AudioInstrument track.

I finally managed to get HALion working within Logic Audio:)))

This was great! I also prefer to work with Logic instead of Cubase.. don't know the exact reason. I find Logic so easy to work with, and it's got serious potential (of course, Cubase too..).
