Pulsar2 - Breakout cable switch

Hi,

Quick question, does anyone know if there is a difference in the Pulsar2 cards when it comes to using a different breakout cable then the one that came originally. In other words is it possible to use the plus cable (with a card that came with the standard I/O cable) ??

I would expect the cards to be the same, but maybe there is a difference?

As i recall you need a different plate to use the plus - but my memory may be a bit off on this. You can swap the plates i think but whether CW still sell them individually i don't know.

the cable whip MUST be with the appropriate i/o plate. the whips are NOT interchangeable.....

So there are three versions of the Pulsar project card?? How can one tell which breakout cable goes with which card, since the connector is the same physically. Is there any visual identification on the card??

well, the plus and classic20 look the same, but the zlink, 24adat and madi are obviously different. it's not the card it's self that's different, it's the i/o daughterboards that are different. the classic20 and zlink both use the same cablewhip, which is unbalanced. if you wish to change to balanced, you must also change the i/o board.

the levels on the two choices are different. i don't think that the unbalanced whip will actually do damage or vice versa, but neither will be any real help over the other. you can always adapt the classic whip rcas to xlr anyway. you still won't have a +4 signal or a balanced one, just an unbalanced signal through an xlr connector.....

you will be able to tell from the Live-bar > set > samplerate
if its a z-link or adat card

contact cwa or your dealer. possibly you can buy an i/o plate and whip.....

the AES/EBU Chips (2 of them) which provide the balanced signal are built on the PLUS I/O Plate-One of those IC's is visibly labeled 1601 . B9916- those with Classic Plates wont find it on their I/O.

So changing the cable only won't output a Plus signal
