We are only at three days time for Planet Z 6th Anniversary! It is amazing! Six years have gone already since this second edition of Planet Z started, long ago: 15th of January of 1999.

I wanted to cheer everybody up starting this virtual party and giving you all a HAPPY WEEK, so I prepared a little surprise that I hope you like. It was a lot of fun thinking and doing it for you, and it was a real pleasure, too!

Our world seems to be in big trouble right now, there are too many sad things going on which are almost unbearable, so hard they are… The Z place is a virtual paradise you can come in and enjoy, and in a way getting away from so much sadness.

I have to thank you guys for something I admire and this is your PASSION!!! This is so nice… your strong interest for what you do, makes of you wise children with lots of years, but still ductile and flexible as a child, and this is magnificent! Thank you to you all for all the great readings of this passed year 2005, and for all the great music as well. I hope I can read and hear as much in this new 2006. Thank you for all the posts you have offered to the forum for solving so many problems. I fill also happy to have solved some minor ones too.

I have used mainly the Modular I for this surprise, absolutely in purpose, so you can hear how amazing this synths sound. Most of you, I would say about 99 %, have forgotten the Modular I. I have never stopped using it because I like very much the characteristics of the sounds, it’s like an old big analogue synth beast. I have also in purpose used very row sounds, I mean, the “reset” sounds as we call them. For the guitar and bass, I’ve used the marvellous Celmos’ BAM and GAM. Enjoy Friends!!!

It’s party time in the Z!

You took me by surprise Nestor and forced me to bundle a present for John and all on Z too.

Very nice idea, much humour and great music, just Nestor.

Happy Birthday Z.

The one to answer this with property is John, as I don’t remember, but John did it so I think he will. What I remember is that Planet Z existed before this version of ours, and that this is the second version. Then I remember very well that the date is 15 January 1999, but the posts from those days are probably not very useful today, as systems and software have changed so much. If I’m wrong, correct me please.

January 15, 1999 was the date I launched the planetz pulsar pages: the first version of the website with my articles on performance, latency, setup, etc. Also the per-device memory and dsp usage charts. My earliest attempts at community-building were a rudimentary mechanism for file sharing, and the original wish list and bug list (which allowed users to post issues).

Here's a snapshot of how it used to look:

I launched the first "problem solving forums" about a year later on a free forum-hosting site, then the forums as we know them now in March 2001.

Cheers,

Cheers John.

Yes, I remember this page, particularly the “memory usage chart” which was so well explained, then the large list of pictures of every single module, nice.
