I had also a problem with the ultragain and a standard Pulsar1.

However, I found, the problem was not Pulsar related, since the Behringer could hardly feed my taperecorder either.

I send the Behringer to repair
- No problem found

We checked it at the store
- No problem saturating the pre.

I took it home.
- I could not saturate my Pulsar. If I turned up high enough, the vu-meters on the pre would clip (even with nothing conected.

I took it to the store
- Again it was not necesary to gain that high to saturate.

I took it home
- I still could not gain enough.

I got it swaped at the store for something completely different. I believe, I lost some goodwill. Not everyone believed me.

------

My advice for you: check it out with other equipment than your Pulsar. It might very well be the Behringer. I saw other ultragains in the shop comming back from rep.

hi.

I think this depends on th vu meter you are using in pulsar...
is a nearly clipping signal on the vu only half way up in cubase ? when not, it's definitly the vu...

another point could be the bit depth (24 bit- more headroom..), when you got cubase workin in 24bit mode.

hope this helps

I don't know if this helps but I just thought that cabling (balanced-unbalanced?) and output-input impedance ratio can affect the gained signal. I've had a Behringer mixer and it worked with Pulsar, the Ultragain might be a different case.

if the pulsar is the +4 version,is the ultragain set to +4 or is it -20? balanced outputs CAN be at -20. also use a mixer into asio and adjust your gain there.

There is no switch between -10 and +4 but there is a level out but the mic pre peaks before there is a decent signal in pulsar/cubase.

hmm ,input is input in the analog world.it could be low or high but the brand of pre sould make no difference.(i've got no input level probs.)
