2,500 miles of bouncing 'round corners in France and ... France survived!

Unfortunately, Andy had an incident coming off the last roundabout in Marseille, and managed to break his headstock (and two of my indicators), so after limping onwards to Cassis, his riding days were over for that holiday.

We've got some cool video footage of Andy chucking it about along the Gorge du Tarn and of me in the Alps. It's currently on mini-DV tape format.

I think that he can record this straight to HDD (and thence on to DVD), but from that point I would like to edit the footage (there's about four hours' worth altogether) and mix in some music that is currently in my head.

Any suggestions for video editing software (Windows)? I'd be nice if it could do funky stuff like speed up the video stream...I would like to keep the original "soundtrack" (i.e. the exhaust note) and blend in some music of my own too. It'd need to be able to 'rip' the DVD onto HDD too.

(I've never tried doing anything like this before by the way).

Nice to be back on PlanetZ!

Some DVD recorders (Plextor) are bundled with Pinnacle Studio. For simple tasks it's ok, like recording via firewire, cutting, title, adding music.

*dink!*

Good reminder, thanks Micha - I've got a plextor DVD & Pinnacle software bundle.

I wondered what that software was for...

I use Ulead VideoStudio 8. Easy to use and does not freeze all the time like Premiere(in my computer anyways).

So, own up, who thought this thread was dead?

One thousand years in the making, but finally the France Alps Biking Video lives!

My friend has kindly hosted it for me at:

http://bonstio.net/ston

It's a pretty large file (235MB mpeg), but it does represent the Last Voyage of The Bus and has some awesome scenery in it (and I make a guest appearance!)

It also has the mastered mp3 of the biking grunge tune I posted on .music some time ago.

Help yourselves, folks!

It was Pinnacle Studio SE (came free with my Plextor DVD drive).

I think the "SE" stands for "Suck Edition"

I may yet upgrade to the "PRO" ("PRObably will work") version.

One issue I've got with it though is the ludicrous audio compression applied when creating a VideoCD - dreadful breathing/pumping of the top end tied to the bass parts.

It has a few other audio-related BUGs too, so I'm hoping to trial the PRO version first before commiting any £££s to it!

If you want excellent audio tools in a video editor then Vegas is for you methinks. Vegas started life as an audio program and works in a very similar way to Acid. Now about that 235Mb download ! Got a low-res version

Thanks for the Vegas tip Spirit!

Yeah, will sort-out a smaller file this evening, it's a bit fat for a lot of people.

BTW, can you do this sort of thing in Nuendo?

Vegas is very cool. Pretty much the daddy in it's league. Watch out for Viruses in older cracked copies if a friend happens to say 'oh, i've got a copy of that somewhere'. At least one of them a couple of years back was riddled with infection

( Not that i'm condoning the use of warez, but you might want to try the *full* version before buying  )

yeah, but only 'just' - in Calfifornia the rocks would probably be granite while this video shows famous French limestone
Reminds on the area of La Chartreuse, Briancon, Aix-les-Bain (?)

Anyway - I enjoyed the movie, great start and worth elaborating. The music reflects the flow of the pics and that 'blowing-up-to-pieces' transition could simply be replaced by a version with better rendering, the idea is cool

cheers, Tom
