Hello all,
I want to integrate a good keyboard controller into my HD recorder/mixer/plus computer DAW. One recommendation was either the Kurzweil PC-2X or the Yamaha S80. I have a good email quote on Motif for $1600 which is in the same price range. Which of these would work best with Pulsar/Emagic's computer sequencer? Any other suggestions?
Thanks for any help,
Chuck

The Motif is supposed to integrate with Logic (as well as Cubase and Cakewalk). It has a number of sliders and knobs that act as a kind of mini-mixing desk. Via Motif's USB connection it is supposed to be able to control 4 audio channels at a time on the big three software sequncers. I've got it to work on one channel at a time but I haven't figured it out quite yet for all four channels. According to magazine reviews the clues to figuring out the Motif's virtual mixing capabilities are spread over four pages.

Also, the Motif's knobs and faders are quite good at moving the virtual controls on Pulsar synths, mixers, etc.

Greg,
Thanks for the tips on Motif. I was just at Guitar Center and I finally learned what a Midi controller like Midiman can do with a sound module like Proteus. The harder you strike the key, the louder a drum sound gets. I guess if you're just working with the computer, a Proteus type module is a money saving alternative.

You can do exactly that with STS3000 and a cheap plastic midi keyboard...

Well, you could do it in style with a more expansive keyboard for sure

any of the new knobby VA synths are good for control because of all of the knobs for cc# control. no weighted keys though . . .

i use a yamaha cs2x - a cheapo rompler, but it has 8 knobs and costs less than $400 if you where to look. You can even get some pretty good sounds out of it - I was told it is the cheapest "real synth" available, a view which I will not defend, but mererly offer.
No aftertouch though
the cs6x has it though . . .

Thanks to all,
I'm off to GC. If you have really good credit, GC has a "buy now don't pay til Jan 2003" offer going on. I'm going to make monthly payments to myself til then.

Yeah my friend did that GC no payments thing, and ended up coming home with the Korg MS2000 to use to control his new Elektra+PowerSampler bundle. Cute setup!

Anyway have fun choosing a synth and remember to be sure the knobs send "CC" and not "NNPR" or so, for the easiest integration with your CW stuff.

I'm back from GC. Due to wife restraints, I only got one NTK(389) mic with the Presonus M20 Pre(500) and a Yamaha S30 for the feel(750) instead of a S80. Such restraint.
Thanks to all,
