If you want to live with your amazement and don't want your illusion be spoiled, DO NOT read this message any further. For those interested, this is pretty easy one.

Here is the explanation:
Lets take any two digit number xy. It's value in decimal is 10x+y. Then we subtract the sum of the digits, that gives us following formula:
10x+y - (x+y) = a
Which is equivalent to 10x+y-x-y = a
Which can be reduced to 9x = a

So, the result (a) is always a multiplication of 9.

Now, have a look at the symbols for 9, 18, 27 etc. They are all the same!

That's all there's to it.

No, it took only 4 minutes (a few test runs included) or so.
And no, I didn't know about the existing post, naturally I would have linked onto it if I knew.

oh c'mon we all know there's no rocket science behind this.. it's magic all the way. Voodoo magic. Spoimala can talk to numbers. And I saw a cow jump over the moon yesterday.

I've seen this before, but it's such an awesome trick. Less math, I think it's more cognitive science than anything else. Boy was I amazed, my jaws dropped off.

After you're done being amazed at basic pitch's riddle, try this:
http://www.20q.net/

This one grosses me out. It's based on neural network AI, and it'll try to figure out a word in your head by asking you 20 questions. Usually gets it right within 20 questions, sometimes more.
