For those of us in the U.S., Sept. 17th is Constitution Day, and it's a pretty short document well worth reading. You can read it here: http://www.usconstitution.net/const.html . This site is especially good because it tells you which phrases were later altered by amendments.

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

One of the best and most important documents ever written! We are still reaping the benefits we have received from it, and every nation on this earth would do well to study it.
