Sleek, "cool" urban type sound overall. I really like how the cheap synth strings and melotron (freeware) strings blended together to create a dense string texture.
Interesting rythms structures here and there. Dunno, does this cut it for electronic? Or something like that. I always find myself sneaking in disco and funk influences. Which is a good thing.
Also, recently I've been working on my piano chops so most of the keys are played live without quantize. And some of the bass too. It's fun to blend these with other quantized parts.

What is the Japanese fascination with disco? It was simply the most horrid American music ever created and how is it that echoes live on in Asia? It is also most hilarious when I go to an Asian grocery store and hear Japanese girls doing rap music. Not exactly ghetto credentials.
well, depends what era of disco you're talking about.. I mean, the more funk orientated disco music (hmm.. Jamiroquai?) isn't too popular in Japan. Most of whatever that's left of disco influences right now is the more 80-ish, "rertro" style sounds which is there for its kisch quality and none more. Kisch, and nostalgia I think.
With the rapping and hip hop stuff.. well, it seems like the whole world's going for that image. A matter of time before it gets worn out, just like the old metallica and ACDC t-shirts.. I think it's good for the Japanese market in general tho, because hiphop really gets people to think about timing and groove, percussive elements rather than writing crappy simple melodies. With hiphop influences, you get simple melody with some groove atleast. Not to mension the whole dance phonomenon that made Tokyo one of the biggest dance capitols in the world.
But I see what you're pointing at. It's the world of hyper-realism, a world where you consume the image and not the actual makings of the image. You dress like someone from the streets or wherever, listen to music that supposedly originates there, and imitate a lifestyle that supposedly a "real" hip hopper lives... and then find out that there is no such thing, that the image itself has been fabricated, and the whole scene, probably even the artists themselves, are trying to live and create an image of something that doesn't exist. The image has surpassed reality, and it's hyper-real. Or something like that.. it made so much more sense when my phylosophy professor said.. lol
Labels and MTV are to blame a lot too for cashing in and making culture similar worldwide. Languages are disappearing as is a musical heritage. That's why I don't shed any tears for the industry when they cry about file sharing hurting them. There always has been and always will be music.
Very nice Ken musically! Enjoyed it and the sound is superb. The only thing I don’t quite follow with my body is the drum lines, as they tend to let me in a void in moments that the entire song calls for a bottom being present, so it may cut slightly the flow. Just my perception though
