Its been a mad week, been really busy, and have tried a new tack making tunes - petal's post made me want to try out reason - and so far i came up with this; it's got a chilled melancholy vibe, and probably goes on for two minutes longer than it should, but hey, its only five minutes of your life, and melancholy is here in London - and "chilled" is all you can do about it - at least for me it is! I hope it takes you away from everyday life, and lets you drift somewhere more peaceful - like it has me for this past few days...
Praise be to Jah

P.S. all my tunes have shitty names.... i know... i'm sorry!

I like the feel in this one a lot.
Perhaps a bit too many elements starting around 2:15. I'm not sure what I should be listening to, although you can see it as a paroxism climaxing at the "oboe" melody.

I would like to know what the exact reverb settings you put on that FABULOUS snare, please.

A bit of remixing and you're there, man

Thanks Paul, i'm really chuffed with your analysis, bang on it! As to the snare, its just a sample i got off hammersound i think, anyway, like i said its all in reason so first i put it through the redrum and tweaked it alot (mostly velocity and attack up), took an individual out from the redrum to a mixer channel in reason and sent a small amount to the auxilliary channels where i was using the RV700, and scream 4, adjusted the send amount - the reverb for quite a sharp release and the distortion to be mild, like warm tubes. In the pulsar i used the vinco - medium/mild, and as an auxilliary, and a bit of panning in both programs (reason and scope). Globally there are also the psyQ and Optimaster (both of which are awesome). The exact settings, i really can't remember! Really glad you like it though. What do you mean by remixing, in what sorta fashion, more progressive you think?

Actually by remixing I was thinking more rebalancing the mix in order to give each instrument their own space. Bringing main melodies up front and sending secondary stuff to the back of the mix. What I mean then is to give clarity to the mix, not remixing the tune like a DJ.

You added a tube reamp effect to the snare?

yeah, the scream has some "saturation" effects - and i used a very light amount as a send, it just gives the snare a bit more crunch, without really distorting it.
You are right about remastering, i should go back and clarify it, maybe in a couple of days when my ears a fresh again - i always find that once you have been working intensivly on a tune you get to know all the parts so when it comes to mastering you can hear all of them, even if some are not loud enough - so don't necessarily get the levels right. i don't know if you get that as well - i find i can play with the balance all day, and deliberataely tried not to (too much) with this one.
Thanks for the comments.
