Hello ,
Long time no see folks .
A question about SyncPlate .
I'm doing a project which requires syncing my Luna2 system with an old blacface adat ( yes ) 48k . Sequencer is CubaseSX 2.2
I've got it working ok when adat is mstr coming in thru syncplate source but cannot !! get system to work with adat as slave/cubase mstr via syncplate dest .
Even trying asio2 sync to midi clock is not working.
Any ideas folks ?
Regards,
Michael

those adat machines mostly MUST be master, they can't function as slave.

....further thoughts ...
I think ADAT Mchns can be slave ... those machines did slave to their BRC control panels after all ... Maybe I have to use the Scope VRC128 or VRC-S ??
I tried to hook up the VRC-S ( I don't have VRC128 mdl ) but cannot get its transport buttons to work even tho other buttons like auto-playback and eject do work ...very strange . I'm assuming I've hooked all this up correctly .. 9pin in and out to syncplate, adat is slave / scope is mstr etc .
Regards,
Michael

vrc-s and vrc-128 needs vdat. They don't emit clock themselve

vdat does...

Where does the VRC-S device come from? I have the VDAT plug but no VRC-S. Has it been superceded by the VRC-128?

vrc-s is the small one... Maybe it's in other folder of your install, should really be there

Thanks guys ... well apparently the VRC-S will do the job , ie control an external adat no vdaT needed I have syncplate installed etc all wired up in the project page, clk0 to syncplate dest and asio2 clk in ....so how come the transport buttons on the VRC-S will not work ??

Hello again ,
Ralf from Creamware told me yesterday he doesn't know the answer to the adat sync problem nor does he know anyone who would .
He suggested someone on this forum probably would know.
Did Creamware not get their own forum up and running ?

I suppose they opted for email based support, and to have planetz with its larger user base (z is a huge scope resource) as online forum... Solutions for 99% of the problems can probably be found running a search here, for more specific issues one can email CW.

Hang on, I thought the sync plate was only for clock? I haven't used an ADAT in over a year, but I thought the syncronization was carried on those little 9 pin doohickies, and then you use MIDI to control the transport.

Am I wrong?

Hi Michael,

Yes, and this was not all, i told to you . .

>Did Creamware not get their own forum up and >running ?

Why you don't have asked me this during our mailcontact ??

Here's the answer ( it was given much earlier in this forum ) :

PlanetZ is the most helpful community you can find.
It is probably not possible for the most companys to offer their own forum in this quality, because a lot of experienced users are interested to help and give their assistence and experience to other members of this community.

i'd guess that the adat's settings are to be blamed. why not just use it as master?

Maybe a few screenshots of your SFP setup would help:

1) routing
2) VRC-S window

And also are you sure you're using the right 9 pin cable for the ADAT sync? I.e. all the pins are straight through, no crazy crossed pins? And all the pins are working? Multimeter is the easiest way to check.

Does your ADAT have an ID assigned to it? It should display an ID like 1, 2, 3, ... if it's receiving the sync signal.

Anyway if it comes down to it, and the sync + a few of the transport buttons are working, but the record / stop play aren't, then maybe you could send sync via the syncplate, and transport controls via MIDI?

Just a thought!

I don't have an adat, but I remember that if you don't connect a VDAT to the VRC-S , the VRC-S buttons don't work.

Try to hook a VDAT to it and let us know

that's what i said earlier, and i'm pretty sure that's why.

Buttons on vrc-s OR vrc-128 do not respond without a vdat connected at all...

Hello again ,
Thanks Ralf and folks for ideas ...
Seems logical that VCR-S would need the VDAT to run .
I can get by with just ADAT as master and that is working now but Seqencer as master would be better . One would think that VCR-S would work if it could get connections to syncplate source and dest but both cannot be in same project..oh well ...
Same issue with VCR128 do you think ?
