Hi there,

I've got Scope 4.0 running on one Pulsar 2 with an A16 Ultra, I finally got around to installing Cubase SX3 (version 3.02) but now still can't get it successfully to start

I've got three critical problems as far as I can see:

1. When starting, the ASIO Multimedia setup's Audio System Test seems to always loose sync and says refer to a troubleshooting PDF. Does anyone know how to fix this or where I can find this PDF?

2. During the "scanning plugins" part of startup (this takes ages, should it?) I get a dialog warning me about "Error loading the Tcp Mib library". Googling for this only revealed problems with printer. What on earth is it doing popping up while Cubase is starting and how do I fix it?

3. After clickon okay to two identical version of the above dialog, things get a bit further. After that, I get another mysterious error dialog: "Hardware version 12 detected. This hardware requires a software update. Please consult the installation guide". What installation guide? What hardware? Anyone seen this?

Anyway, clicking "okay" results in a "Cubasesx3 has encountered a problem and needs to close" crash

Happens every time.

Anyone know what I need to do to get this fixed? If this is more a cubase issue, can anyone point me to a good forum where I can ask these questions?

did you install the cwa driver as well as sfp4.0?

check the device manager(start/settings/control panel/system/hardware/device manager). are there exclamation points or question marks? if so, where?

the audio test is for the wav drivers. it's not too very important, but the program wants to do it. are there wav drivers in your scope project?

I don't even know what the cwa driver is, so unless it gets installed by default, the answer is probably "no". Should I have it installed? IF so, where do I get it from and how do I install it?

Nope, no exclamation marks.

Yep. "Wave Source 1" and "Wave Dest 1".

Any further help greatly appreciated...

the driver for the card is the one i'm refering to. it would be a rare situation where you didn't install it as the os should ask for it when it recocnizes the scope card. anyway, there are no warnings in the device manager.... you DO have scope running right? how about the clock in scope? check the samplerate dialog(on the live bar, set/samplerate), is there a samplerate showing in the window?

(back from holiday, time to try again)

- yes, I have scope running

- clock master is my A16Ultra, via ADAT A

- 44.1Khz shows in the window.

Now, I'm still really curious about the "error loading tcp mib library" and the "hardware version 12 detected" error, not to mention the crash.

Any ideas?

Sounds like driver problem.
Uninstall Pulsar drivers in Device manager and re=install Scope v4.0 drivers

does this mean the SFP user interface with live bar and routing window is running, but the sequencer doesn't start ?

whatever you finally want - verify that SFP is running on it's own first and set it as the clock master.
if you get sound and midi in and out, add the A16 as slave and check if IO is as expected.

then add the sequencer

I don't have that program myself, but from what I've read it can be strange when it looses (for whatever reason) it's sync source.
The setup above is the most simple one to provide the drivers with clock - I dunno what is loaded when and in which sequence.

at least your errors suggest that Cubase doesn't find the corresponding hardware to the driver selected.

At that's my interpretion of the 'hardware version detected...' error, which shows up when the card cannot be found.
I've had this once in a system that was unable to scan the slots properly and once after I removed the card but left the driver active.

a missing clock source could be enough to hide the thing (but doesn't have to, it's of course a bit speculative)

anyway, even with just the first error in your list above you can safely forget to continue - it's so crucial that the system will never reach any operational state.
There's no such thing like a little pregnant

there's this rule of thumb to use the converter as clock source for quality's sake - people reported that there is an improvement by using a dedicated studio clock via BNC sync, but I wouldn't expect the same with Adat sync (in any sync direction).

if the A16 had the same clock quality as a dedicated studio unit, that news would have spread most certainly, as it would be a bargain...

good luck, Tom

"Hardware version 12 detected..."
Driver does not match with the currect software!
You can update driver from "Hardware, Device Manger", Find the path where SFP4 Setups installation. Example: <SCOPE_v40>DriverWin2kscopewdm.inf

of course that's how it's intended - but I've got exactly that message because the card wasn't present - it's easy to remember because it's so stupid that it's already great again

cheers, Tom

Okay, still lost.

I go to Control Panel -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> Sound, video and game controllers -> Creamware Pulsar2 - 'Driver' tab

I see:
Creamware
07/05/2002
1.50.10.0
Not digitally signed

If I see the following if I click on the "Driver Details" button:
C:WINDOWSsystem32cwScopeProp.dll
C:WINDOWSsystem32drmk.sys
C:WINDOWSsystem32ks.sys
C:WINDOWSsystem32portcls.sys
C:WINDOWSsystem32scope.sys
C:WINDOWSsystem32stream.sys
C:WINDOWSsystem32ksproxy.ax
C:WINDOWSsystem32ksuser.dll
C:WINDOWSsystem32wdmaud.drv

Is that all as it should be? If not, what should I change and where do I get any new files from?

One other thing.. every time I put in the Cubase USB key, it asks me for drivers, even though I've already installed them

Why is that?

is the a16 on when you start cubase? what is in your project before opening cubase? stupid questions, but i want to be sure i know what's happening...

you might try reinstalling the driver(update driver). choose the driver from the install disk. or unistall the card in the control panel, restart and windows will rediscover the card and reinstall as though it were new hardware. i'm doubtfull that this will solve the problem, but..

the dongle will prompt windows to install a driver every time it's plugged into a new port for the first time. i usually leave mine in the computer.

Yup, it's always on.
what is in your project before opening cubase?
Pulsar2 ADAT A Source
Pulsar2 ADAT B Source
Wave Source 1
Pulsar SPDIF Source
Pulsar2 MIDI A Source
STM1632 wiring it all together
Pulsar2 MIDI A Dest
Pulsar2 ADAT A Dest
...and a ControlRoom to generate test tones.

I tried this a coupla times at the start and it didn't help :-S

Ah, okay, that makes sense.

uh, put an asio souce and dest module in you project. right click on the soure module, choose settings surface and set the desired number of i/o. start cubase. that should do it.

you also might want a wav dest module just for the i/o test that cubase REALLY wants to run at the first startup.

once cubase is open, go to the vst device setup and choose the asio/scope driver.

the asio modules represent the audio in and output ports(jacks) in cubase.

Okay, I added an ASIO Source, ASIO Dest, and Wave Dest 1. Only the ASIO Source is connection to anything, the STM1632 in fact.

The ASIO Multimedia Setup does indeede seem ot have stopped whining, hurrah...

...but I still get the two "Error loading the Tcp Mib library" errors, followed by the "Hardware version 12 detected" error, followed by a Cubase crash

Any ideas?

Yes, come to the Cubase forum, you'll get more info than anywhere else for that matter... Not that people are not knowledgeable here, but it's more to do with your Cubase than the card itself...
Ah, and prepare your dongle number.

i'd start by reinstalling cubase over the top of the old install. if that didn't work, i'd wipe the hard drive and start over in order to save time and headaches.

if the files are in place properly and your project has the correct modules in it, it MUST work!

that library is for a vst plugin isn't it? did you have any cracked vsts or demos on your computer at any time in the past? before the nuclear destruction, try temporarily renaming the vstplugins folder to something else and try to start cubase....

This is all a fresh install on a fresh PC, there's nothing software wise that I can think of as causing problems. No cracks, no nothing, brand new machine.

Tried to rename the plugins folder, but Cubase still finds them all

I'd love to know how to start Cubase in a "no plugins" mode... Any ideas?

(or how to get any further with this...)

I had a very similar problem to this with my Scope Project card and Cubase VST 5.1, I think I reinstalled everything (Windows, Scope and Cubase) but Cubase still would not load properly.
Out of frustration I gave it one last chance, two months ago I deleted the hard drive( I only have 1 in this machine) by filling it with zeros then put Windows and the audio software back on it and it has worked flawlessly ever since.

I have no idea why it didn't work before.
It might have had nothing to do with erasing the drive , I may have set something up wrongly and forgot about it but the fresh start cured whatever it was.

oh, and the machine works well with or without hyperthreading enabled and it worked well before and after I installed Windows XP service pack 2 and all the updates.

This solution would be a bit drastic if you had a lot of software installed and it may not be YOUR cure.

Well, in the hope of revising this thread, I thought I'd do a bit more research...

So, the "Starting Cubase" box appears, and this time I noted down exactly what happened an when.

- lots of "scanning for plugins"

- when the status window says "initializing: hpipxmui", I get "Error loading the Tcp Mib library", close the dialog box and continue..

- more "scanning for plugins"

- when the status window says "initializing: hptcpmui", I get "Error loading the Tcp Mib library", close the dialog box and continue

- more "scanning for plugins"

- when the status window says "initializing: Sim", I get "Hardware version 12 detected", close the dialog box and continue

- more "scanning for plugins"

- when the status windows says "user32", I get the famous WinXP error box "Cubasesx3 has encountered a problem and needs to close"

*sigh*

So, anyone got any clues how to tackle any of he above?

Failing that, anyone know how to control what plugins cubase scans for?

And finally, anyone know how to get hold of someone at Steinberg who may be able to help?

cheers,

Chris
