First impression of tripleDAT Plug-In

Hi fellow Pulsarianz!

Got me this Plug-In and I must say
Not bad!
Plus:
16 ADAT In+Out = 2x8 Stereo
Osiris
Minus:
Blocks Wave Source + Wave Dest

Opinion:
Very useful for recording. Just connect any device
with the tripleDAT dest module and press record button.
Easy.
My reason to buy was Osiris. The declicker is superb. yep!
(That must be the feeling Sparc users have. I know, Air_Pollo
& friends, we PC users have only CEP, Wavelab & Co.

)
If you are into cleaning tapes and records I highly recommend
the Plug-In.
For the normal home studio the 16 ADATs are a perfect thing
to round up the studio.
I'm not a professional, so I don't want to recommend it for these.
I could imagine that 16 is not sufficient, or is it?
Well, for us at home I can say:
Recording is easy, cleaning and refreshing is REALTIME (not to
compare with Dart, that always hangs so that you return to
oldfashioned preview). Unfortunately there is no undo (Darts BIG plus!).
Yes, and 16 In/Out is good to have. (eliminates this prob of
gosh, what must I do with all these Inputs and Outputs of my better
mixers)
Ok, next week I'll report about interaction with Logic and second
Soundcard.

I don´t know Tripledat plugin but I studied
the manual.It seems to me that more aux-and effects outputs would be nice.I use two hardware reverbs which is not possible with only one aux.I also think that direct-x and win 2000 support is missing.If these features were present I surely would buy this software.

OK. Who can wait one week?

Forgot to mention:
Program installs ONLY IN FIXED PATH C:Pulsar3!!!:mad:

Compared functionality with my good old CEP.
Handling is pretty close like moving samples with
right mouse button, dblclick for edit sample:
PLUS
you can graphically edit the pan. Not bad, eh?
you can select named blocks (they're a red box
with the name in it), very practical.
MINUS
Unfortunately the cutter window (=single sample edit)
has a bug. It sometimes disappears out of window size.

Not so useful. (no way to get it back into reach by pressing
Tile Windows, but at least it asks to save when you close by
choosing the right mouse menu in the arranger window)
Closing/reopening the arrangement helps to get the cutter back.

The effects pool is a mighty thing. You can make a bunch of
choices with different effects and listen or save this.
Also really not bad.
I start to understand why there are fans of this software.
If you are into loops you'll probably like it.
And the second effects pack in your pulsar.pro does'nt
make it really worse. (+if they include maybe some VST or
DirectX, well, that too would'nt make it worse

)
And please stop this behaviour of the Effects manager to
"stay always on top", in tripleDAT yes, in Windows - please NO!:mad:

Had to start Logic ("yes, coming, just this little try",
...)
Message from Logic: XTC plug-ins are not available while
another Creamware application is running.
Ok, that's fine with me. But why does this Infobox not
disappear after pressing OK button? And, after kill by
Taskmanager, "Cannot start pulsar"

Hey, Logic, Pulsar is open! Yes, believe it!
Well, as you all can see, XTC is not yet so perfect.
But when I look at what is open now, tripleDAT, Pulsar and Logic,
all are very mighty programs depending on realtime functionality.
This is not so easy to manage.
Hope they'll get it sooner, not later.
Another one: Opened CEP.
Don't worry: Logic via Sequenzer Midi Source to Xsynth into Xmixer
and tripleDAT source into Xmixer and from there to Analog Dest
or via Wave Dest into CEP for recording IS OK!

Sorry folks for the info about Wave Source/Dest, seems to be a "feature" of
Wavelab Lite. (-Help, another app has stolen Creamware Rec and Play-)
CEP plays and records. No problem. I apologize.

TripleDAT is a nice program but to call it a plug-in is a bit misleading I think.

* tripleDAT does not run under DSP control - it runs under native CPU. This shouldn't pose a problem if you have a fast processor and 256MB or more RAM. Make sure you implement all the usual Windows system tweaks before you try to install and run.

* Osiris is wonderful for removing noise. Pretty cool that it works in real-time. The fact that Creamware bundled it in with the latest upgrade is great. It was a $400 option before. Firewalkers was a $300 option.

* The other effects modules are also pretty good although I think some of them are a bit overly complex (chorus, delay, etc.). The room simulator is adequate. None of the effects have been updated since V1.1 I think. Don't know how they compare to recent offerings from other companies.

* There are way too many graphics bugs to mention. At least on my system, when I minimize tripleDAT to the task bar and then maximize it again, the upper screen elements don't line up.

* The effects module window always remains on top even if you minimize 3DAT to the task bar or close the arranger window.

* There used to be a problem with the faders disappearing but they fixed that in a previous version. Now when you scroll up and down in the arranger window, you'll notice the faders blinking at you.

* The pitch control was somehow dropped from 3.11 - seems this must have been tied into the tripleBoard.

* No 2496 support

* No Win2K/XP support

* Lack of CD burn function although you can recover this from a previous version but with fairly old options now. Doubtful it will ever be updated.

* Don't expect updates anytime soon. It took Creamware almost 2 years to release 3.11. I was actually surprized they even bothered.

* 3DAT's strength is in it's simplicity. Fairly easy to master. Editing samples is a breeze once you get used to it. I've been asking around if there was a better alternative out there and most people who are familiar with 3DAT seem to think it's still better from a user interface standpoint. Again, sometimes simple is better.

* I think it's kinda funny that they added MP3 support because about a year ago I asked Creamware if they were ever going to incorporate that feature into 3DAT and the response from Germany was: no - due to licensing fees or something to that effect. Go figure.

* I hope they eventually devote some more time to the program and release another update. A clean-up of the graphics glitches at least would be welcome.

I was thinking about the Triple DAT, but I downloaded the free Pro Tools recording software and it does me, with 8 tracks of audio and midi sync.

thanx for your additional info

Since my Pulsar can do 2496, the Plug-In can do that too.(must be something to motivate the "oldies" to buy a Luna/Pulsar/Scope and the upgrade).
