This may be a question answered before which i cannot find.

Using Cubase SX in XTC mode it works great except when i tick 'Direct Monitoring' I get no sound. The cubase input track gets a signal but not the recording track. When i untick 'Direct Monitoring' all works fine but with long latency.

Help appreciated.

My XTCProject.pro file is -
In.Source -> Asio2 Dest.
Asio2 Dest. -> Merge (in and out linked)
Merge -> Asio2 Source
Asio2 Source -> DirectPlayMixerContainer -> Out.Dest

Whats missing?
Thanks.

I ended up copying the 'XTCProject.pro' from the Scope 4.0 Install CD and now it works fine.

its bizare. I never had direct mode support working. I called creamware support and the guy told me that he had heard about that problem but he had no idea how to fix it. He says they dont really deal with xtc anymore. He told me to email germany, so I did.

They wrote me back and told me that the direct mode button is not necessary anymore in cubase sx. I dunno. Anyone care to comment? Im confused.

i don't think that direct monitoring in cubase has anything more to do with scope than the asio properties window in cubase does when using scope mode. afaik, direct monitoring is handled in scope with the directplay mixer module. i dunno if vst synths are affected by the setting though as i don't track in xtc mode.

Wondering if anyone can help as I've had to just give up after hours and hours of attempts. :sad:

I tried to create a monitor mixer setup within XTCproject.pro, to compensate for Direct Monitoring in Cubase not working, but for some reason, I don't hear anything going through it. I just sent the A16 sources to a ST32 mixer and then its direct outs to both the ASIO32 Dest and a separate mixer (for input monitoring). Then there is also a micro mixer for mixing the lines from the DirectPlay Mixer Container and the monitoring mixer I created and sending it to the analog destination. Also a very strange thing is that Cubase SX 2.2 is showing me these inputs:
1 In 1 Scope 24 bit
2 In 2 Scope 24 bit
3 3 Pulsar ADAT A
4 4 Pulsar ADAT A
5 5 Pulsar ADAT A
6 6 Pulsar ADAT A
7 3 Pulsar ADAT A
8 4 Pulsar ADAT A
9 5 Pulsar ADAT A
10 6 Pulsar ADAT A
11 7 Pulsar ADAT A
12 8 Pulsar ADAT A
- up to 16 12 Pulsar ADAT A
then 17 L Merge
and 18 R Merge

Why does it go from 3 to 6 and then from 3 to 6 again?

With these inputs, I can only do Direct Monitoring in Cubase with the very first two inputs... In 1 & In 2 Scope 24 bit. For all other inputs, if Direct Monitoring is enabled, I get no sound but I see the level in the input monitors in Cubase.
And I'd just disable it, but I can't seem to get monitoring working directly in XTCProject.pro.
Also, it just seems that the XTCProject.pro is very flaky, i.e. if I edit it/rub it the wrong way, it corrupts, even if I've done a very basic, obviously needed routing task in it. (I've done tons and tons of routing in the SFP platform, so I'm pretty sure I didn't make a basic mistake in that regard.)

And I still get some of this
when trying to enable "Direct" on Lightwave or any other synth:
Cannot make connection: pads Lightwave.OutL and
Add 64R.In02 are incompatible and no appropriate converter is available.

This has happened with or without Direct Monitoring enabled in Cubase. The DirectPlay Mixer Container was at that point connnected between my Asio24 bit source and my analog dest.

XTC is wonderful but it'll work and be stable. It's so odd that it seems to corrupt itself when I make small changes. Then I have to either replace the file with a backup or in many cases reinstall SFP completely.

Thanks for reading this book! If I can clarify things, I'll try.. I think my mind has melted troubleshooting this for two full nights. :eek:

As far as the inputs I listed, I should mention that I did change Wave Setup - Number of Devices from 2 to 16 in Device Manager for my Pulsar I card and 2 SRB cards. Not sure if I have to do anything with the MIDI Setup - Number of Devices setting which is still at 2.
