Hi,

Has anybody of you any experiences having both UAD-1 and CWA cards in one computer? Any issues?

Thanks for the answer.

Is it worth to have UAD-1 while having CWA cards? I know it's very wide question but if you had to answer in a few words - would you recommend the card for a longtime-CWA-card-user? I mean - do the plugins add a new colour to mixes?

Ok got it !
since I installed the card I use it constantly some pluggs are really usefull like the 1176 and the reverb is really nice
a lot of parameters to tweak your space!
its really working nice with cwa and sounds different
for example vinco has not the same coulour that the 1176 and masterverb pro(that i like)is different too and brings new ambiance

so yes the cards together brings a wide tone of sounds

I've found my UAD very usable on certain tasks. Pultec & LA-2A combo is a must have in my vocal channels.
Preflex can create some very nice guitar sounds and sounds great on bass guitar. I use mainly crunchy/dirty sounds and in that area preflex shines.
1176LN and Vinco sounds very different to me. Both have their strong points. I've found Vinco better for drum bus/loops. It has more breathing sound, while not making highs too harsh.
Dreamverb suits better for drum and percussive material, being more 'defined' than Masterverb Pro. But it needs lots of tweaking, the presets are not usable.
Masterverb pro is great for general instrument ambience and vocals.
Not sure about EQ's as I don't have Cambridge. But Pultec is wonderful mastering tool.
For my needs one UAD is enough, although you can easily fill up all available DSP. I'd find UAD more usable if the DSP consumption was more improved. Definitely there should be room for that, as my logic can't explain how mono and stereo instances can use same ammount of DSP. But I guess their policy is to sell more cards. Anyway, not regretting buying UAD. some of the plugins in it are irreplaceable.

Some of my thoughts..
cheers

Thanks for your comments and that's what I wanted to know. However there is one more question since I have't seen UAD in action - does it bring latency? I don't mean things like 10 or similar miliseconds (I know that even 'reaaltime' work consumes some time - I mean an enormous latency. Or another way - is the latency reasonable?

There is a latency 2 x asio buffer. So if your asio is 12ms, then uad plugin introduce 24ms total, when signal passing into card and out.
If you are using a host with latency compensation, this is not an issue. Also you can do manual latency compensation by yourself.
For comfortable real time monitoring with uad, there needs to be small enough asio buffer of course.

For some bizarre reason, when using Logic 5.51, the latency of the UAD card is larger than the 2x ASIO latency figure.. for example, I've got an RME Multiface system in an Intel PC in the studio, and with the RME at 1.5ms latency, the buffer size for the UAD is 512samples for some reason  This is acknowledged in the UAD release notes, but no proper explanation is given.

Can't argue with the quality of the compressors though... they are seriously great.

I tested the buffer size in my system. If I set my pulsar asio buffer to 64 and open cubase with some uad plugins, all reads like it should. Buffer says 1.45ms, plugin latency 2.9ms.
Samplitude is a different case. It uses it's own buffers for plugins and asio has no effect. Perhaps there is something similar happening in Logic too? Anyway, never seen logic, just a guess.

There is something in ULLI dialog I don't understand. If I choose the lowest possible latency 3ms @ 44.1KHz, the buffer size is still 64 samples. That equals 1.45ms @ 44.1KHz (64/44.1). Also uad control panel confirms that my latency is 1.45ms. So I wonder why is ULLI dialog misleading (3ms/44.1KHz).. Strange

3ms in and out (2 x 1.45~) for asio

Curious, though, do you have any bandwidth issues, my puter is optimized, so i can use every bar of my scope and pulsar, ...with my athlon 3200, i'm afraid if i added another pci card, my bandwidth might suffer, (you know that latency thing)

Finally I have an UAD-1 (Project PAK) and also use Logic (Mac). I found that it really has larger latency than ULLI x2. It was enormous. Then I looked in my Logic's driver panel and lowered its buffer to 'small'. Yet, the latency is not 2x ASIO but it is 23ms which is not bad considering the Pultec eq and LA 2A.

Yep, I did this too and it is bearable, but it's still quite strange that this happens.

my 2cents, ...i like the uad card better than the element card, after 6 months i traded my element card in for a project pak, thats because i have a m2000 from tc. The uad comps are great and all the other little plugs like ex-1, Dm-l, ..much better investment than the tc stuff and better sound, very rounded no hiss

I agree, I've also used both and the TC stuff while being very 'shiny' sounding is not as fat as the UAD stuff. By this I mean preserving original tone and just doing a good job as a processor. I'm not too fond of the guitar amp and the reverb is okay but the compressors are great.

i like the la2a, of course many say that if you like the uad version the real one will blow you away (the hardware version), i like the 1176ln and will buy the fairlight one too, apparently neve has signed on with them too. the vinco is really cool too, does something a little different than uad's 1176ln, but doesn't punch out much with less release, but creamware doesn't color anything, thats why it is so loved
