Well, i was quite happily working with SCOPE4, when i noticed ModIII didn't have any drop down menus (just the classic CDAccess, PepBase nonsense). i thought this might be due to my renaming my SCOPE4 folder, so i thought i'd just do a complete reinstall.

That's when the shit hit the fan.

i get to the dialogue on the installer where you enter the allkeys file. i try to enter it but i just get "Cannot read Registry file" and then i obviously can't get any further on the installer.

OK, i thought, i'll just carry on with my old SCOPE4 folder. Try to launch program, "SCOPE cannot start due to missing 'alloc' file." Well i can bloody see the alloc file so what you talking about you dumb software? Last resort, i tried SFP3.1c, surely that'll work. Nope same 'alloc' error, obviously the partial install has buggered a file somewhere for all my installs.

i now have a completely useless DAW that i can't even do a full reinstall on. Where is tha 'alloc' file supposed to go - in the extensions folder? Why can't i import the allkeys file?

i'm quite dispirited by now and cannot get anything to work

Any help appreciated before i break down into tears.

Sorry to hear that

The alloc file should be indeed in the Extensions folder.
Now I have no time to think of it but perhaps this helps. Kepp my fingers crossed

Well i manually put the files in the extensions folder (where did they go?) and i can get SCOPE4 to work again

However, i still have the install problem (allkeys not reading) and the ModIII problem of no menu bar. Oh well, at least i can make sounds now.

Cheers,

as to the mod3 thing, you did download the mod3 files seperately and put them in the mod3 folder in the devices folder, right?

The folders in the mod3 menu bars, if the files are installed as garyb explains, can be relocated in cset.ini. I thrust you on how to edit that file on mac, look for the line section [StaticPath] and correct (or add) the "Modules" path. I suggest not to differentiate mod2/mod3, you can put them in the same folder.
cset.ini is also where you setup your different boot partitions to get their files from another installation or part.

About the registering... Are you sure you're importing the right version allkeys file? AFAIK, SFP3.1c and Scope OS/SFP 4 have different allkeys files. If you're not sure, you can import the registration file from an other installation or backup. These registration files (scopy.rgy, allkeys) are plain text files and can be viewed and edited as such.

Good luck!

Does your Scope installed folder contain blanks (eeerr, I mean the name of the folder)? It shouldn't.

Now I'm just guessing but perhaps you have the FileExchange CP deactivated on 'make PC extensions... blabla'?

...er, i don't know what that means.

As it happens i did make sure there were no spaces (in fact that was part of why i was reinstalling - i had renamed my folder SCOPE4, but i've just renamed it to SCOPE_Platform4 just to be on the safe side, although Macs are usuallu OK with spaces - this is a PC port though).

i'll try at0mic's advice tonight, cheers. On Mac the install is one big install, not separate like the PC.

Oh, and i downoaded the latest allkeys (CW site is back up  ) just to be on the safe side so it hould be OK. i'm going to try again tongiht, i'll let you know how it goes.

ah! Now forget the CP thingy. I'm sure the reinstall will help. Only if it doesn't then I'll give you a step by step explanation

Scope is based on PC so man can expect it to behave like PC (the blanks). You renamed the folder? Now you should trash scope prefs - now I'm at work so don't have my DAW (hehe). I suspect the old prefs do the mess with not recognizing the keys and the alloc thingy. But it's just a guess
