Hmmm...must be some legal requirement, I would guess. Everything's switching to "Chip & Pin" now (same in USA?) so I reckon that'll be the next stage of authorisation.garyb wrote:
once the card is scanned, nothing matters. sign whatever you wish. if it really mattered, they wouldn't allow you to sign without supervision.

There's a big political push to instigate [FAMILY FILTER ENGAGED] bloody ID cards with 'Biometric data' in this countrygaryb wrote:
there are plans to imbed all credit info on the magnetic strip on driver's licenses along with biometric info(national id). from there it's verichip.....

This pisses me so far off that I feel like I'm going down a toilet the size of Niagara falls.
I am not going to have one, period. I don't care what consequences there may be...I'm tolerant of a lot of political insanity, but a line needs to be drawn somewhere.

my bank used to REQUIRE a paper backup(reciept/form) for EVERY transaction. now, the atm sez, "would you like a reciept, today?" or if it is out of paper, "unable to print receipt, continue anyway?".....at least in the usa, when the cards magnetic strip is read, it's as good as done....On 2004-12-21 12:13, Counterparts wrote:

I tried the electronic signing thingy today.. guess what, the tablet gizmo was so inaccurate, un-caliberated, and basically just useless, that I couldn't sign it. Clerk laughed, and I signed on paper. What happened was that the tablet was so sensitive that it kept on writing no matter where I pointed the pen. (like it starts to write before I touch the tablet surface)
So there you have it. There's a good reason why we don't see anyone signing the electronic thing-o-ma-jig.

about orwell and big brother watching via a camera on the wall...the funny thing that he didn't forsee was that people would be hot to go out and buy their very own 'webcam' .

Actually Ken,
One of this LARGEST reasons for so much information needed in florida aside from the normal in the US is that Florida is a very transient state, people come and go at a very rapid rate which causes many companies and as an example appartment complexes to get burned.
To lessen this they now have inplace all these polocies you are experiencing, in the end its for the best, but I can completely see how it makes it difficult for non US resisdents, I would only take a guess and say when these places ask for this information they are expecting the majority of peoople whome apply for cell phones and appartments to be US resisdents.
I am sure im Miami things will not be as bad considering the overwhelming populace of imigrants there coming from places like Haiti and Cuba, I wish I could offer some sort of advice, but hang in their, living in Florida is a dream 99% of the time
Cheers!
