Thank you Royston

Feel free to pop by for one of those beers, if you are one day in my neighbourhood.

Hmmmm...since I was so enthusiastic about Hedges I feel somehow responsible for the fact that you missed out on five beers. Therefore I also extend my hospitality, if you are ever in Vancouver I will buy you five beers!

i think that seeing how he abused guitars was one of the most endearing things about michael hedges. he had extrordinary technique and used a lot of interesting tunings, all of which would be lost on an cd. the jokes and sheer over the top zaniness of approach to the guitar are all part of the personal experience of his music. i can see why you wouldn't like his record, Royston. really i wouldn't want to sit and listen to it most of the time, either. i probably wouldn't buy a ticket to his show if he were playing here still. if i happened to catch his show though, i know it'd be an amazing experience just like when i saw him lots of years ago. quite an incredible player...

as far as budget allows, i'm trying to get all zappa concerned. reading the countless zappa forums is good fun and they're extremely well documented. however, not even the zappa.com forum doesn't mention 'jumbalaya'. i know i'm kind of a zappa novice with only about 30 (!) albums on my shelves, so please, fill in this gap... pleassssssse.
or is jumbalaya some kind of musical term you refer to? (country?)

I think it's a Cajun dish, more commonly known as 'Gumbo'.

You can stick just about anything in it, but it usually contains chicken, prawns, crawfish, smoked ham or sausage, veg, garlic, rice, 'creole' seasoning & some good chicken stock.

I was making an analogy between certain artists' music and food. Hence, "Vai's Vindallo" - hot & spicy guitar playing!

"Zappa'a Jumbalaya" - a rich eclectic mix of musical styles.

"Hedges' Margarine" - greasy, bland, unpalatable and indigestible

Hmm, actually, litterally, it means "Jewels Congratulations" =P You can use "Joyeux Noel" for Xmas, "Bonne Fete"/"Joyeux Anniversaire" for birthdays, or "Mon verre est vide calisse!" for "More wine please!" =P
