below is a short bit of literature, resulting from my experience today in the Electronic Music Lab, University of Akron (Ohio, USA). I hope that it is at least marginally amusing ;)

There once was a young man named Algo Rhythm.
To make electronic music, he did quite fancy.
Music experimental. Music dancy.
One problem there was: equipment was lacking!
He searched far and wide and tried to decide,
just how he could realize the ideas inside.
"Pulsar is the answer!" he finally proclaimed.
Got one he did, and music he made.

Most powerful of all, the Modular, he would learn,
The way by which to make many a sound.
With the Modular for many a long night,
Algo patched and tweaked and turned knobs round,
With the end of possibilty never in sight!
Yet for a real modular he ever did yearn.

Music he made, for a year or for two.
With his Pulsar, he made music for others to view.
Yet he wanted analog circuits.
But the money in his wallet, it was not worth it.

Time passed on, as it has always done.
Then a course in Electronic Music.
For knowledge, For fun.
The first day of class a smile graced Algo's face,
as he saw so much gear all over the place!

The piece along the wall which most caught his eye:
Gargantuan, as if stacked to the sky;
It took up the wall with so many knobs and switches!
Realized had been the foremost of wishes.
Before him a Modular, stellar and robust!
To play it someday, he must! he must!

"MOOG" it said, on the rear.
1969! yes, that was the year!

Play it one day, he knew that he would.
Awaiting that moment, for he knew it'd be good!
Music he'd make with that Modular one day.
That Moog in his works, that is the way!

A project he had, due in a week.
"The Modular!" he thought!
Through it, he'd speak!

Algo Rhythm had a lab today.
To the Moog he went right away.
White on his knuckles, sweat on the brow.
To it he went, but would he know how?
In Pulsar he did, he hoped now he would.
He looked at the panels, and he understood!

He patched and patched into the bays!
The sounds came out like lazer rays!
A beast of a beast it drifted and wandered!
With pyschedelic sounds, Algo's mind pondered!

Algo's assistant had recorded the session.
The assistant then gave a confession:
The sounds which Algo made today,
He had not heard even the Professor play!
"A compliment?" asked Algo, somewhat susprised.
"Certainly" he said, "No lies!"

The assistant then asked: "May I use it in my composition?"
"Certainly you may," said Algo, "with my permission."
To the assistant those sounds from today,
Give them he did, he gave them away.

It was the experience he wanted,
it was the experience Algo got.
He liked it not a little,
he liked it a lot!
Yes, Pulsar is good, and pulsar is great.
But a Moog? There is no debate!

Believe what I say 'bout this man Algo Rhythm.
Believe me you should, because I was with him.
In fact, I cannot help but be,
because he is me!

:)
