true, but there are plenty of other reasons it could stop working...

as an aside, got my activation key within 8 hours of e-mailing tech support with the request string. reasonable.

*edit*-just saw the timestamp on the e-mail that stw sent back, and i'll correct my post. the key was sent within 5 hours.

At the moment the chorus can modulate the delay by 46ms, if I change that to 23ms I can reduce the DSP usage by 50%. Should I do that?

Hey,

No, the update of the cd-100 is not yet finished. Im working on BPM delay. I have changed the diffusor, so it sounds better. And ofcourse a lite version.

Regarding the P100: Mac user can apparently load the following :

3 full version p-100 or
5 p-100 lite or
6 p-100 lite pci.

Pretty impressive.

Cheers

yes, that's 50% fat-reduced without loosing taste! the only noticeable difference is the width-parameter i guess.
is there a difference between mac and pc?

It´s not a problem to run scope with 3 p100 on a pc too IN ONE SESSION...
My problem:
PCI overflow while starting sx even with two instances of p100. (After reloading the scope pro only)
It´s not a problem if sx is already running.
Any idea?

Best,
Andre

since i have only 3 dsp i can't recreate your problem but when i got pci overflow messages in my earliest projects i lessened the asio in/out channels. that did it for me. sure, that works only if you have unused asio channels...
hope that helps though

Finally sprung for the P100. What an awesome sounding reverb! Not a trace of harshness, it sounds great on everything I tried. Good job, Warp69! Now I need even more DSP power though. I don't suppose there's any plans to make it run on a Noah?

Hi Warp69

It can't load your p-100 in new ScopeFX series. But with Scope 4.0 I can load without problem. Do you know how to fix it?

Thanks..

The main difference is that Macs cost a lot more and it's more difficult to build your own because they don't want you to.

Braincell, that's simply not true

you can buy Powerbooks below $1k streetprice
Macs have a way longer period of use

you literally spare 'months' of installation orgies (yes - I consider my time valueable)

there are reasonable CPU upgrades from 3rd parties to extend the machine's lifetime even more

and last but not least: build your own ???
what for ? see above for time.

can YOU come up with a smarter design in both hardware and visual appearance than a G5 ?

didn't you notice that all those barebones feature the original Mac paradigm from the 80s (ha, retro time...)
btw I was in the PC shop today and they had a G5 lookalike case for PC modders... at best to be called a helpless attempt, a true pity

I'm no OSX fan at all - ok, it increases my support hours, ka-ching  but a G5 IS something to have, even for me.
And there are Wintel boxes that cost at least the same amount.

cheers, Tom

The reason the setup time is longer for a pc is because there is no software for the mac!

I am sick and tired of the mac owners smug attitude. I spent time wrestling with a friend's G2 (this was even before OSX). Her computer was bombing so she asked me to try and fix it. Gee I thought that macs don't do that! After hearing Apple complain about Microsoft business practices for years, I was very ticked off because I had planned to switch from Cubase to Logic and had bought an emagic interface since the salesman told me it would have less midi latency with emagic's logic sequencer. One month after my purchase Apple bought Emagic and promptly dropped the PC line of sequencers so I did not switch and am stuck with bad latency. That left me and 90,000 users flushed down the toilet. With a PC you can use MICrosoft or LInux or other operating systems but not with Apple, then you are married to the operating system. They want it to stay that way. It turned out to be a bad idea for the apple company. They are doing well with the ipod which is a fad it will noo last. Sony already has a better product. Perhaps they should go into making toasters now.

wrong again, Braincell
and this is no smug or whatever attitude, but a simple consequence of the fact that

the Mac has no registry
no more no less

that means: I can boot a Mac from a CD, trash the system (folder), copy a new system from whatever location or machine (on older Macs even from a different type of Mac) and

all previously installed apps continue to work

a basic OS9 installation to a blank harddisk takes 10-15 minutes with one single reboot and the Mac is ready for use

the problems you observed frequently have their source in gear which was developed for the PC market and is poorly adapted to Mac, or in the way PC users 'like' to interpret what they see on a Mac screen.

I'm referring to a 1 hour support phonetalk I recently had with a PC 'specialist' trying to setup a wireless LAN card in a Powerbook

And of course I will not leave out the detail that Apple itself is trying for > half a decade to get it's userbase away from OS9.
Apple actually appreciates any flaw or hardware problems with it's 'classic' products.

That's multi-billion $ corp that wants (has to ?) to sell new stuff.

There is absolutely no problem with a 400 MHZ Powerbook from 1999 for typical home or small office use - and those (still) sell for 400 bucks today...
Braincell, you're not stupid - what do those figures express ?

1.) the one who bought that notebook six years ago still doesn't need a new one, 6 sad years for Apple...

2.) 400 bucks for a 5 year old piece of gear is pretty much, if a twice as fast brand new one costs only 1k, isn't it ?
fairly good investment, imho

cheers, Tom
