wolf audio design proudly presents the 1st standalone step sequencer for our beloved scope platform we missed since its introduction !
Also it is the first one, which features 32 steps.
Just connect your favourite midi device (even the old outboard stuff collecting dust or the ones in your main sequencer) and have fun !

get it here:
StepSequencer

for requesting a demo please write a mail to wolfgang (at) worldless.com

main features:
- 32 steps (well, the thread name says it)
- seq. circuit completely done with basic sync atoms, garanties rocksolid timing
- not only one, but three swing parameters for different steps in the timeline for achieving versatile grooves, connectable to each other, can be modulated via LFO
- different surface view options for better step determination
- tool for (hopefully) composing the sequencer lines faster
- manual and automatic midi note reset
- transpose for all notes
- much more ..

thanks for listening (and buying, of course  )

apropos listening, here's a jam I did with it connected to the SixString:

there is an additional interface, which let's you control every 8th or 16th step for note, velocity and gate separately. No matrix, sorry.

Seems like a nice device, but, sorry for asking, what is a step sequencer? in what way does it differ from an arpeggiator?

Cheers,

You know, I can't read the writing on this GUI at all. There is insufficient contrast between the writing and the background.

now that you say it, I agree, the GUI could be better.
Too much attention consuming collor, and hard to read...my eyes aren't that young

@ Rob van Berkel
it differs in many ways to an arpeggiator and superseeds it in some ways, as there is much more control about which note, gate lenght and velocity is played at a special time. Also it is no problem to transpose the composed lines while playing. E.g. connected to Minimax I had some nice bass grooves running, which you could make in a matrix editor of a usual sequencer as well, but there you can't "play" these lines in a flexible way like you can with a step sequencer. Neither with an arpeggiator nor with a matrix editor you would be able to generate the above posted guitar example just by playing.
Hope, I made it a bit understandable .. I just jumped out of bed

@ nprime and hubird
you are talking about the descriptions in the lower area, not about the step controls in the upper one, I assume ?
These look a bit better (more contrast) in reality, but I agree, that they aren't the best readable fonts at all.
However this was not my goal because there are also tooltips with longer and more detailed explanations available for each control and after all there aren't that much in the lower area, so you'll remember their function after a short usage and will use the descriptions just as hint (hopefully  ).
The main working area will be the upper one anyway, where the numbers should look clearly even on the compressed jpg. Additionally the view options let you change the visual division to 8th (like the screenshot shows), 4th or every 2nd step beeing highlighted, to get the overview over the 32 steps better organized.

However I can make a version with sharper and therefor better readable letters for you, if you need.
.. and sorry for the attention calling red , but again, this looks quite different having it running in scope and having used the view options.
Visitors were already envious, that they don't have a scope, after having asked, what the eye catcher on screen does

Finally a surface is always a compromise between readablity and usability like doing a mix.
So perhaps this will change with a future version depending on the feedback of the users, you hopefully will be a member of soon

@ arela
there are no banks/patterns available, yet. For now you have to use the preset list for that.

steppenwolf would have been a great name

Thanks to all for your comments so far, very appreciated !

Hi all,

there is a new (better said two new) version(s) available now.

Improvements:
- timing drift between steps lowered from +/- 4 ms to +/- 1 ms
- occasional mute of first step fixed
- occasional note on/off send of all steps resulting in a blurb when releasing the last key fixed
- lowered dsp usage (about half of a dsp less)
- some improvements not worth to mention

There is a 2nd version available with usage below 2 dsp.
All existing customers already got both.

Please send me a mail, if you have interest to check it out again.

I've mailed you a couple of times, requesting a demo - but I never get any replies. Is there anywhere I can download it?

Carl.

Hey Carl,

I'm very sorry about that !
I got a mail the 9. nov from you and sent you a mail directly back including the demo. I didn't got it back, so I assumed you received it. Thanks for getting back !
I have just sent another demo to you, hopefully this one will arrive.

Is anybody else out there, who didn't receive his demo yet ?

kind regards
Wolfgang

Great concept and I desire it. It could use some bells and whistles such as delays delays delay delay lay lay lay.

A delay ? How do you mean that ?
I think, connected synths will be confused due to the note on/off biz. When there's coming two note on and after that two note off for the same note, the first note off will work for both note on and/or there will happen note hangers. Most synths have a delay anyway ..
But thanks for any suggestions .. any more bells and whistles missed ?

I plan to add a step length parameter, so one can set 24 steps (or any other length) to play in different bars beside 4/4.

@ Carl:
Did you receive your demo now ?

kind regards
Wolfgang
